President-elect Donald Trump said on Tuesday he will direct the Department of Justice to “vigorously pursue the death penalty” after President Joe Biden on Monday commuted the death sentences of 37 federal inmates to life in prison.

“As soon as I am inaugurated, I will direct the Justice Department to vigorously pursue the death penalty to protect American families and children from violent rapists, murderers, and monsters.

We will be a Nation of Law and Order again!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, echoing his long-standing advocacy for use of the death penalty, which was part of his tough-on-crime rhetoric during the 2024 campaign.

After Biden’s commutation of most federal death row inmates – which Trump on Truth Social said “makes no sense” – there will be just three individuals in federal prison facing the death penalty when the president-elect takes office in January.

I am against the death penalty, and always have been.....

Ever since I voted for McGovern.

Yet, nobody listens to me.

By the way:

Does anybody listen to you?

That's right!

Nobody listens.

And, you have NOBODY to vote for, EITHER!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact, the only guy people are listening to...these days.....might be.....

He came out of nowhere....but now....

People are listening.

The irony of criminally corrupt felon / adjudicated rapist Trump proclaiming law and order is endlessly delicious.

But it wasn't a fluke this time.

Americans actually voted for this fascist.

Overwhelmingly, it seems.

Just as I predicted.

murderers who plead guilty

So.

You think just because one pleads guilty to murder....then....

They are guilty?

Really?

Does that mean that Co-President Musk also endorses Trump's death penalty beliefs?

Well, if my family member was the victim I would go to the prison with a bag of popcorn and watch these disgusting criminals fry, then laugh in their face.

Too many who are innocent are killed by the state. This is barbaric.

That is an indisputable fact. It's the reason I'm against the death penalty. I've nothing against ridding the state of the cost of looking after the really bad criminals, but too many innocents have been put to death to want it to exist.

Unfortunately, our present world has become so polarized that reason, and even the ability to reason, has been lost.

Instead, we are heading for Bedlam.

I have mixed feelings overall about HOW the death penalty is charged and prosecuted.  If there is undisputed PROOF of a heinous crime then I have no problem with it and doing it quickly not dragged out for 20 years.  That proof would need to be surviving potential victims/eye witnesses and video etc.

Unfortunately HOW it is applied is usually to poor people and people of color at an unequal rate.  So I respect your position.

I am not against the death penalty for some people.  But it needs to be tightened up to make sure only the guilty are put to death.

A good stoning-to-death is quicker, and less dragged out.

Donald Trump Stands By ‘Central Park 5’ Ad Calling for Death Penalty: ‘They Admitted Their Guilt’

Five young men were wrongly convicted in a brutal 1989 attack on a jogger in Central Park, then exonerated when DNA evidence proved another man committed the crime — and he confessed.

You try your best to show Trump in a bad way for these things. But face it. The men were not put to death and had gotten released from exoneration. They would not have been put to death either because it takes almost 20 years in prison before a death sentence is given. Plenty of time for them to be exonerated or to fight with appeals in the courts. So your nice little Trump rhetoric has no bearing to this OP.

When there is no doubt over the guilt of people committing horrible crimes, especially agaiinst children, the death sentence is appropriate.

Perhaps you should write your congressman or senator ? Oh wait you don't have one as you don't live in the USA nor have you lived there in decades right?

Yet you want to decide how the cake that you need not eat is baked right?

You want to decide what the families of the murdered victims should be happy/protected with right?

Lastly about your protected by life imprisonment comment...how about you put your money where you situational ethics are & donate your SS to help pay for the life incarcerations of these murderers?

Yeah didn't think so.....next

All other arguments aside, you do realize that with all costs involved a life sentence is cheaper than a death penalty?
