What was 2024 like for you ?

Featured Replies

I had this question last night from a work colleague

But then he went in to ask "did you do much in 2024 ?

I started to argue with him.

Do you need to correlate doing much to having a good  happy fulfilling 2024?

I went overseas twice but maybe someone who stayed in their own country and never left was far happy and had a great 2024 rather than me being locked up in the view talay 2B in Pattaya ?

So the question is did you have a fulfilling 2024 ?

How did you measure it , was it happy ,was it fulfilling, did you do much or was you happy doing nothing

Was it challenging

Or

Are you happy to see the back of 2024??

Was it the year for you ?

IMO the western world has gone collectively mad and unless it stops carrying on like it is western civilisation is going to be joining the Romans in the dustbin of history.

Like the Romans, the mob rules and we have invited in those that will destroy us.

Over the years I have been living in Thailand, my assets have been decreasing at an average rate of AUD 7000 a year. That's after getting the OAP, and investment income.

At the end of 2024, it was a pleasant surprise when my assets increased by AUD 15,000.  A combination of exchange rate fluctuations, and a cashed-out capital gain in precious metals.

I am looking forward to 2025, when I am expecting shares in a rare earth miner to take off.

My health was quite good during 2024, so yes, it was a good year.

Happy New Year.

XRP waits for me!

to the title ... Excellent

Though didn't get O&A as much as past few years, but got things done around the house and explored a bit more locally.

Overall 2024 was excellent for me.  Assets appreciated.  9 months in Thailand.  LTR-P visa issued despite having to obtain a new passport after approval.

The icing on the cake was Trump’s election victory.

Shame on you, contributing to the obesity epidemic in Thailand. Get out there and plant cabbages instead.

I always think to myself when guys are nearly 80 why they are concerned about investment and making more money

I know....it crosses my mind frequently.....cash crops and an unhealthy diet!!!

We do have Yams and rice.....so a slight improvement over sugarcane......otherwise every square inch is dedicated to sugarcane.

The number after a date is simply that....a number. Same as a birthday, it changes nothing, except maybe in the mind of the birthdayer, except in the case of 49 to 50, then you can get a Retirement Extension, or 65 to 66 so you can get your UK pension. Or start a new Tax year on 1st Jan, here we come.

Time is limited son ,

At my age, the average life expectancy is 5 years.

The money is not for me. It is for my son and my GF, they both deserve it.

Have a mix of qqq and s and p up 34%.

Got so much P over 100 easily,  so great to be healthy and still banging.

Yams and rice are only marginally better.

Fess up, you don't want to plant cabbages because there is too much bending over.

Same here. I do say to GF that everything she spends or asks for now is only money she will not get when I pop off. So as they say, up to her!

Ha!.....My involvement in the whole farming process is dropping the wife off in the fields of a morning.

Why don't you buy her a scooter, then you could really be lazy.

The number of life changes once you hit 80, not many make it past 85

For me, the second half of the year was better than the first half.  I was dealing with an eye issue, but finally had surgery at the end of June.  With that problem solved, my health has been fine.

Financially, I've been doing great, as some of my stocks really took off beginning in July, so that's been fun to watch.  Eye popping returns.

The election cycle in the US was also fun to watch.  It ended well, fortunately.

The big challenge in 2025 will  be somehow stopping all the wars started by the warmongers.  Those need to be stopped ASAP or none of us may live to see 2026.  I try to be optimistic, but that's becoming more and more difficult, given some of Trump's cabinet picks.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how many trillions actually get cut from the budget.  Whatever happens, people in the USA should expect more inflation.

Psychic?? Just what I said.

She'll ride as a passenger, but that's it......plus we'd have to get a trike version as she takes the dog with her.

I can't see how a combination of tariffs and tax cuts is going to reduce inflation.

Of course, trillions could be cut by reducing military spending, or slashing Medicare and social security.

Trump has promised not to cut the latter, and wants to increase the military budget.

So where are the cost savings coming from?
