What is clear is this little Thai mans mindset is autmatically "need to find a weapon". They just can't fight fair can they.

Was the driver perhaps expecting a trip to the airport, but was now only supposed to drive a distance of one kilometer, even though he had already had a journey of perhaps several kilometers?

Booking a ride for a 'journey' of 1km, approx 1/2 a mile ? Surely an easy walking distance ? I suspect the 57 year old Norwegian may have been slightly the worse for wear at 5am after a long night out. It would be interesting to hear from the driver what it was that lead him to react with such violence.

Regretfully Mr. Andersen is in Lalala Land with a law enforcement system which can easily be bent by monetary or racial means - simple as that. So Mr. Andersen's justified reference to a lifetime revocation of a driver’s public transport licence does absolutely never happen in the land of the semi-divines. 

 

He may remain hopeful that justice will be served but the breaking news is that this will not happen - ever. If Mr. Andersen would not have been in Phuket, the incident would not have happened hence it is Mr. Andersen's fault. 

 

Naturally the police are investigating the matter, working to identify and apprehend the suspect - hundreds if not thousands of boys-in-brown are hunting down the culprit. A shortcut would be to read the details on Mr. Andersen's phone giving name of driver and car plate registration, the "popular ride-hailing" application had an break-down of servers or similar while the CCTV (which of course unfortunately was not functioning) renders useless as well. 

Should, surprise surprise, the culprit be apprehended then a "wai" and a flower basket to the victim will solve the problem while the backhanding of a little bak shish will compensate the law enforcers for their good work (for which they are paid for anyway). Eventual fine will reach its ceiling with 500 Baht. 

Are all these goons aware of the fact, that the internet and such news can be accessed and read also outside the Land of the Semi-Divines?

Well, who will have the last word on this one?! There are more views and opinions than there are angles in the compass.  I don't like to jump to conclusions, presume, or assume too much, because so much is unknown.  From what I can see, however, there didn't appear to be a clear Indication of who had offended whom initially.  But it appears to have escalated into reciprocated violence, with both parties trying to inflict injury on each other.  

As for Phuket, I enjoyed a little time there a few years back.  And I find any occurrences of violence in Thailand, or anywhere, regrettable when there is so much potential for good things to be happening.

It's a video of a tourist who was drunk and belligerent and got out of the vehicle to fight, not run away.

I'm not sure I understand the last part. Are you asking me to explain it? I don't exactly disagree, although I think he was just arguing and storming off. It looks like the Thai turned it physical (unless something happened in the car).

A taxi driver must be prepared to accept if a passenger wants to cancel the ride or change the destination and to do so without violence. This driver needs to be sent to prison for assault with a weapon with intent to cause bodily harm. Let him rot in a jail cell for a few years for losing his temper and then attacking the foreigner. 

You don't see my point? You have no idea what happened in that car as you admitted yourself. I was just pointing out the pure generalization of the post I was replying to, avoid Phuket and all Taxi drivers are criminals, what part of that don't you see understand?

Brilliant comment. Maybe if you wore a shirt that said “I’m not Russian”, or maybe a tattoo across your forehead, you’d then be safe. Or, if you were nice and respectful to Thai people they might like you, you’d find out they don’t think the way you think they do,   and you’d feel safer.
