I agree.  While Season 3 has been a slow burner, I can't wait for Sunday's 90-minute finale!

No, I never bash nor hate, so I try not to waste the bit of energy left in me. It is Mike White who may have made an intentional therapeutic miscalculation by alienating the entire cast in a non-fitting habitat. After going viral twice, Mike White now finds himself like Clarence, the very unfortunate cross-eyed lion of the ’60s—distinctive, memorable, yet somewhat misplaced.

 

But something much more profound happens here. When a show is set in a place that feels familiar to me, it acts as a doorway to memories and emotions. White Lotus Season 3 attracted a much larger audience due to the virality of WL1 and WL2, but it also became a conduit for reconnecting with old friends and lovely past moments. For me, it pulled attention away from an overly complicated—and therefore boring—plot, shifting my focus toward revisiting what you’ve summarized thus far, and into an entirely different emotional space.

 

Such an experience is a testament to the power of environment in storytelling: once upon a rock-on-top-of-the-watermelon time, there were two lovely, well-ripened seasons... It’s fascinating to watch how a simple change in setting can alter the focus and create a deeper, more personal connection to a show.

 

Casting for WL3 wasn’t easy. Some of these people walked away.

Also one of my favourite actors and to this day I still reckon that his portrayal of Doc Holliday in the movie "Tombstone" was marvellous.

 

Saddened to hear of his passing, but with a voice box and a feeding tube in his throat, he was always going to be suspect to various infections, sadly.

I agree that having intimate knowledge of Thailand creates another dimension to the viewing experience. I don't know how much time Mike White in Thailand but I think he's done a very good job of displaying the contradictions in this culture. I thought expisode 7 was particularly good, the way he juxtaposed the Buddhist imagery with the images of violence and desire. We have the violence of Muay Thai. Saxon is incapable of understanding what Chelsea is tryiing to tell him as all he can think about is sleeping with her. Even as the Buddhist monk is warning his acolytes that violence always turns back on itself, we see Rick determined to pursue his obsession with revenge. And it's not just the foreigners. We have Gaitok, the security guard, plaintively confessing his reluctance to hurt people only to have Mook (Lalisa) respond that violence is natural and he has to be strong if he wants to succeed.

 

It's these subtlties and conflicts that have taken the White Lotus in a direction it hasn't gone before. I guess some people don't like that, especially because most of the comedy is lacking, but I find it thought-provoking. The big question is whether they'll be able to bring all these loose threads together in the finale.

English dubbed so doesn't match the Dutch mouth speak, but not a problem cuz I really like the series.

Tuhlaajapoika is a 1992 Finnish film that you are very unlikely to have heard of unless you're an older Finn. English title The Prodigal Son.

I am attracted to novelties and the plot line of an ex-con happening upon a new vocation of beating up people for a living sounded original.

So I watched the entire movie. I do regret it. That said, the subtext of dated Finnish homophobic themes was somewhat interesting. 

Perhaps best paired with the excellent Tom of Finland documentary Daddy and the Muscle Academy.

I also like Sugar, which starts off as one type of show and after a twist becomes a completely different animal.

Watched Timeless years ago, and made it all the way through so I must have enjoyed it. The lead actress had some private videos from her phone realeased in that big celebrity scandal years ago. Highly interesting and well worth tracking down.

 

A second season for Sugar is planned. Haven't heard if any dates yet.

Just watched episode 7 of the current White Lotus.

Whereas the first two seasons were witty and well acted, this, I thought, was utter garbage.

 

Reminded me of those afternoon soap-operas my second ex-wife used to watch, where scene switched to scene monotonously following the latest "development" in someone's "relationship". 

 

The only characters who held my interest slightly were the three cougars who had a sexual itch without quite being able to admit it.  But perhaps it was their tits (on plentiful show) that made me hesitate to call it quits..
