Interesting that it seems the people criticising young people are using a digital device to read books.

My 15 yo Australian grandaughter has all the devices yet spends her money (from part time work after school and on weekends) buying real books, as do her friends. I asked her why and she simply replied ' I like reading'.

Her mum, my daughter, took her in to the city on her birthday with her friends, one lass spent $400 on books.

Just because we see youngsters using digital devices doesn't mean that's the only thing they use.

Wasn't that long ago old farts predicted the breakdown of society from rock and roll, particularly that devil in disguise Elvis Presley.

There is nothing wrong with using a digital device.   It's more convenient than hauling around heavy book.

Just started Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.  It's a fun, light-hearted read.

I am halfway through Tolstoy's War and Peace. An outstanding read.

I don't get it. Paper or tablet is just a medium. Who cares. What matters is that people read.

When I moved to Thailand, it was not practical to move my entire library. I only have a small shelf of paper books left, and I get 99% of my reading done on my iPad. I do like the feel of a paper book, but I find reading on a device a lot more pleasant. I can adjust the background, size, and font, to my liking.
