The body of a man who fell into the Bang Pakong River on New Year’s Eve has been recovered. The victim, identified as Mr. Saichon 51, reportedly slipped while urinating near a riverside pontoon in Chachoengsao Province and drowned. His body was discovered floating at the exact spot where he fell, approximately three days after the incident.

At 07:40 on 3rd January, Police Lieutenant Chatchayanin Niemkorpetch, Deputy Inspector of Muang Chachoengsao Police Station, received a report of a body found in the river behind the town’s clock tower on Maruphong Road, Na Mueang Subdistrict. Officers, along with a medical examiner from Phutthasothon Hospital and local rescue teams, rushed to the scene.

The victim, Mr. Saichon, had fallen into the river near the pontoon while celebrating New Year’s Eve. The discovery brought an emotional end to a search that had been ongoing since the incident occurred.

Rescue teams used a fireboat from Chachoengsao Municipality to retrieve the body, which was found face down in the river. The remains were carefully secured and transported back to shore for an autopsy.

According to Mr. Somroj 59, a close friend of the deceased, he had been monitoring the rescue efforts since 2nd January. However, it wasn’t until the morning of 3rd January, as the sun rose, that the body surfaced.

“The water temperature was cold, which possibly delayed the body’s decomposition and prevented it from floating sooner,” explained rescue officials.

Mr. Somroj said he noticed the body emerging at the pontoon where his friend had fallen and immediately alerted nearby fireboat personnel. The strong river current had carried the body away temporarily, but it eventually returned to the original location.

The incident has highlighted the dangers of alcohol consumption near waterways, as Mr. Saichon had reportedly been drinking before the incident.

For some.

If it was a foreigner the headline would have been, “Foreigner drowned while taking an illegal piss in the river”
