A 57-year-old Swiss man, whose name has been withheld, passed away after suffering a sudden medical emergency while riding his motorcycle in South Pattaya on the afternoon of January 8.

 

The incident took place on the entrance to Soi Buakhao, from South Pattaya Road, as the man was on his way to pick up his young son, aged 5, from Wat Chai Mongkol Kindergarten. According to witnesses, the man seemly lost consciousness while riding, causing his motorcycle to fall and make minor contact with a local songthaew, baht bus.

 

Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation arrived promptly at the scene and administered CPR. Despite their best efforts and further treatment at Pattaya City Hospital, the man was later pronounced dead.

 

A 48-year-old woman, Ms Sangwan Niyomchat, who serves as the boy’s caregiver, waited outside the emergency room with the child for news of the man’s condition. She shared that the Swiss national had returned to Thailand just two months ago.

 

“He loved his son very much,” Ms Sangwan said. “The boy was born to his former Thai partner, with whom he had separated. Whenever he was in Thailand, he always looked after his son and picked him up from school.”

 

Preliminary reports indicate that the man’s death was likely caused by a sudden medical issue, rather than injuries sustained in the minor collision. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

I give him credit for trying to have been present in his son's life, but now that child is going to be a defacto orphan.  Let that be a lesson to the geriatric crowd here who procreate  after age 45. You most likely won't be around when your child needs you the most. Don't make babies if you can't be a good father and be there when your child needs you. Being a good father never stops no matter the age.

Age 57 he was 52 when the boy was born, father hoped he had another 30 year ahead of him, more than enough time to father a child

Same applies to de Niro. The difference though is that the child will  inherit a sizeable fortune  and will have an extended  family who will be able to support the child. De Niro has 6 other kids some of whom are parents themselves and are available to  help raise the child,  if the mother needs assistance.

 

In the case of the typical elderly farang in Pattaya, they do not have  the wealth of a De Niro, nor the immediate local  educated family members who can assist. Most of the elderly farangs who  father kids do so with local prostitutes, so the child already is starting out  disadvantaged.

Not knowing the deceased, I make this comment cautiously, but I suspect Mr Di Niro is VERY well set up financially. Therefore if anything was to happen to him, I assume his offspring would be well taken care of.

That's NOT a substitute for losing a father of course, but hopefully would assure the child's well-being.

Possibly they were too late. I would think in those situations every minute counts.

The Swiss fella's boy now has to grow up fatherless and with this kind of grief and pain. What a lousy start to his life. Hope there is some kind of support network for the young boy.  RIP

OMG, there is never a bad time for a lecture from a holier-than-thou expat. I'm an antinatalist, so I don't think anyone should have children, including Patong2021 who thinks he's the world's best father.

Well it shouldn't be a competiton between who should have their diaper. changed first; Daddy or baby. No kid really needs or wants a father who  can't be  a father. It's not very helpful when a  boy is 15  and wants to discuss a problem with his father, and the father is already in the throes of alzheimers and drooling spit.   So many of the kids I see with foreign fathers are going to be without fathers by the time the child is age 15. That's the recipe for a troubled kid.
