Anyone else having what feels like a cold, but it drags on and includes extra symptoms?

I'm normally pretty healthy, rarely get a cold, avoided COVID .... but for the last few weeks have had a lingering and annoying minor illness.  Dry cough, slight temperature, aches in joints, rash on feet and arms, runny nose, ... and it dragged on for 4 weeks, just recovering now.

I was wondering if this could be the HMPV virus that's been in the news, as it doesn't feel like a cold, but it's milder than flu?

Anyone else had similar, or am I just getting old?

If it's almost the same as flu, which you got in former years it's ok.

4 weeks is a long time, however and might be monitored by a ENT doctor.

you don't know this for sure.

True .... May have been symptomless, but with all the testing we needed to do at the time I didn't get a positive.

But while this latest 'man flu' wasn't serious, it went on for weeks, which seemed unusual.

Maybe the latest gift from the people of China is an HMPV variant?

Yes, virtually the same with me. Teen daughter got a cold at school. Ping ponged it to me, I then gave it back to her and then her to me again. I've had it since then.

That was in early December. I've had the same symptoms as you.

I don't feel 'unwell', just a stuffed-up nose, (crusty at times as well), plus a lot of phlegm early in the morning.

Mum and daughter fine!

I've just ordered Vicks from Lasada, includes menthol and Eucalyptus and camphor. Chest rub like when we were kids.

That might do the trick.

Otherwise - seasonal!

Yep .... same long-running symptoms, and maybe it's just a seasonal virus, but I used one of the new triple test (RSV/Flu/Covid) and was negative for all three.

China and India have the perfect conditions to brew up a new virus variant (large rural population living in poverty, close contact with domestic animals and a tendency to eat the wildlife) - and anything China or India brews up will always end up in Thailand due to the visa-free virus spreading service.

That could be caused by almost any of dozens of respiratory viruses. And yes, it could be HMPV—not because it’s having an outbreak in China, but because HMPV is an old virus that has been everywhere for decades, including in Thailand. Anyone experiencing cold symptoms for longer than three weeks should visit a doctor again, whether it’s from HMPV or any other virus, as there may be more that can be done to help.

Wife has had something similar since the start of December.....can't believe she's still coughing.

I started Christmas Eve (had a plain omelette for Christmas dinner).....and I'm just about clear of it now.... in the last few days.

Both wife and I currently have these flu like symptoms.

Bit of a bummer as I was looking forward to the cold weather this weekend. As it is , no energy to do anything and wrapped up in a jacket plus wearing socks around the house.

What do they mean by turn your head and cough?

Why do they always tell me this?

I think many coughs might be due to the state of the air quality here.

Just guessing...though.

The air all around the Pacific Rim, most likely.

Except for Hawaii, which is not located on the Ring of Fire, anyway.

Air pollution seems to be getting worse, and not better, in many locales.

Not sure why?

One might think that humans would have learned a lesson after the Great Stink in Central London, and the Pea Soup Affair, named the Great Smog in 1952.

Nobody cares, obvously.

Therefore....just suck it up.

A few months ago i had something like covid, more than a cold, less than flu, did drag on.

I had a cold last week, managed to get rid of it in 5 days.

5 bottles of Brown mixture leopard medicine

Gargling diluted hydrogen peroxide several times a day

Paracetamols

Amoxicillin at the first sniff of a chest infection

I thought antibiotics didn't work for chest colds/coughs, which is usually a virus.

Amoxicillin is very effective for bacterial chest infections, but yes ineffective if viral
