Two Teenage Girls Killed in Collision in Sattahip

A road crash claimed the lives of two teenage girls after their motorcycle collided with a Toyota Fortuner on Sukhumvit Road near the entrance to Rangsee Sunthorn Temple in Plutaluang, Chonburi.

 

The incident occurred at approximately 19:30 on 24 January. Plutaluang Police Station, along with rescue teams from Sawang Rojanathamsathan Sattahip Foundation, rushed to the scene following reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle and a car.

 

At the scene, emergency responders found a black Honda Wave motorcycle, registered in Rayong, severely damaged at the front. It had collided with the side of a black Toyota Fortuner, registered in Bangkok, driven by Mr. Suchart Khonkhong.

 

The motorcycle's rider and passenger, identified as Miss Pasika, aged 16, and Miss Kornya, aged 15, were found unconscious and critically injured. Rescue workers administered CPR and transported them to the emergency room at Queen Sirikit Naval Hospital. Tragically, both girls succumbed to their injuries shortly after arrival.

 

Witnesses, including Sub Lt. Chatree Chomthawon, who was driving nearby, stated that the motorcycle was travelling in the left lane along the hard shoulder when the Toyota Fortuner made an illegal U-turn across the traffic flow to enter the temple. The sudden manoeuvre caused the motorcycle to crash into the car.

 

Dash-cam footage from a nearby vehicle confirmed the sequence of events. Authorities are continuing their investigation and will pursue legal action against those responsible.

Two teenagers, they most certainly would have been distracted.... wonder if they had a working headlight?

Terrible.  There is no cheap helmet that I see teenagers wearing that would save them from a crash like this one.

Multiple factors at play.

 

I have mentioned defensive driving and reducing risk when riding a motorcycle before. There were clearly a number of areas in which the deceased motorcyclist was not driving defensively and was thus left exposed by the Fortuner's dangerous driving.

 

1. Undertaking

2. At excessive speed

3. No helmets

 

But the blame will correctly lie with the Fortuner driver.

been reading sad tales like this daily for over 2 decades and quite honestly it is wearing me down, the stupidity on the roads continues and is ultimately the job of the police to enforce the law and government to make them, I see very little proactive (prevetion) policing going on here, the driving is horrendous with blatant disregard for traffic laws because they are not enforced 

 

another two young lives lost in what was an entirely avoidable accident because people are allowed to do stupid

Whatever the shortcomings of the girls on the bike, the car driver should be charged with manslaughter.

Sadly you are correct. The driver's brake light isn't activated at all. Watching the recording I see that  an automobile and another  motorbike braked.  I do agree that the motorcycle driver could have avoided or lessened the  injuries sustained had she braked.. I suppose  at that young age, she was overwhelmed and froze.

If you open your eyes you will see the girls had no real chance to miss the vehicle as it was bind to them until the last minute

again we see a bike accident with kids, was she licenced, if not why was she out on a motor bike at that time, while the car driver was in the wrong, like many other accidents  it may have been avoidable if the law was enforced, way too many unlicenced kid riders are involved in accidents when they should not be on the roads apart from going to and coming from school. Unfortunately many thai parents dont give a s*** what their kids do as long as they do not interfere with what they are doing, riding illegally doesnt bother them at all, it all boils down to the police not enforcing the road rules and doing their jobs, sorry for the girls but there is a more involved than just the car driver

It amazes me the dumb arguments being presented here to justify comments and blame victims.

 

speeding - a distraction

on phone - a distraction

no licence - a distraction

 

From the short video clip, there is no evidence of any of these distractions being fact or not.

We will never know.

The only fact is that there is a big black car, at night, in a place where it should not be.

Very sad for their families.

The SUV driving  "Without due care and attention", he drove across the path of several cars, and that motorbike without checking  the oncoming traffic, so whats to investigate,  if u have any sort of road traffic knowledge !!

Both of those girls were of legal age to be riding a motorbike at 15 years of age, which  imo is far too young,  Licence or no licence, it doesnt alter the stupid way they all drive, kids, adults, police, they all drive  without thinking

It appears the rider's view was blocked by the white car they were undertaking (which was lucky to avoid the Fortuner). RIP two young ladies. Tragedy for their families.

But my takeaway is that the driver with 2 tons of steel and seatbelts walked away with minor, if any, injuries.

There was no more than a second between the car becoming visible to the rider and the collision. She would have needed lighting fast reactions to even reach for the brakes never mind apply them. That, not withstanding, this was primarily the car driver's fault.

 

However, one thing stands out. I and many others have spoken out time and again about the dangers of riding motorcycles on the hard shoulder. The rider was 'boxed in' by the car on her right and would have been unable to swerve out of danger, even if she did have more time to react.

I believe the truck and the white car blocked their view and had no time to react before impact.  I'm tall, I can see over most cars.  It's obvious to me shorter people can't.

They didn't have much of a chance.   The vehicle making the illegal turn was obscured by traffic.

they were also going faster than the other vehicles and didn't slow for the temple junction, sadly poor riding which i see from reckless farang like you every day

they were going too fast towards the temple junction, faster than other vehicles,  you should use other vehicles as a guide, if they are slowing down there's a reason

The road carnage here mostly victimises motorcyclists, who have no protection of a steel cage and seatbelts/airbags.

 

Proportion of motorcyclists in most Western countries much smaller. Cars here also much more expensive, and wages lower. Until most road users are car drivers, the situation will be unchanged.
