Critics argue that while the policy facilitates tourism, it should be accompanied by stringent laws to prevent such incidents from recurring

I am fairly sure these laws already exist but doubt they will be at the top of an inebriated tourists mind at daft o clock in the morning not sure changing visa policies will stop people finding their way here people will still make it into the country they will just have a shorter amount of time to start a fight!

Looked like a bunch of girls fighting anyways, my misses could probably have taken on most of them, I think I actually saw one of them beeatch slap another!

In similar news, a night of partying on Bangla Road turned into chaos when a drunken Russian tourist was hospitalised after a violent altercation with security guards.

The incident unfolded at Oscar Bar, Patong on December 18 last year. Police were called to the scene at 11.50pm, where they found 31 year old Russian national Evgenii Kozlov seriously injured after a scuffle with bar security.

According to initial reports, Kozlov, heavily intoxicated, climbed onto the stage and began dancing, disrupting the bar’s operations. Security guards, 30 year old Chalermphon Suphannaphon, 28 year old Thammakach Sukho, and 19 year old Watcharaphon Laowong intervened, removing him from the stage.

The situation escalated when the Russian man reportedly began acting aggressively towards other patrons, prompting complaints. As the guards attempted to escort him out, a struggle ensued, culminating in a violent brawl.

Stricter visa rules are required!

Fake news for sure; unless:
a) the Italian was a ladyboy and a professional snatcher
b) the Indian wore gold necklaces, rings and bracelets of solid gold worth millions of Baht
c) the whole incident took place after 2am, when the Indian decided to go for a walk

You may now kiss the ring!

I don't know why Indians get into fights when I haven't seen one that can actually fight.  I guess it's more of the mob (coward) mentality.

Same could be said of Italians

I'm not sure how any kind of visa policy would necessarily keep out the idiots.  It's not as if they can spot them all when they enter.  What are they supposed to do, do a thorough background check of everyone that shows up with a passport?

Disgusting idiots.  Phuket really seems like a S hole now.

Now?

Despite the good diving there I stopped going back in 2008 ... for a short term visitor it's rip off  from arrival to departure and one end to the other, all the way even to relatively nice corners like Kata - where tuktuk tossers got threatening with me. The only time in 20 years I've experienced that in Thailand and in broad daylight as well.

Phuket is a puke bucket. And has been for a long time.

I can’t see that this has anything to do with visa policy. Look back 20 years and this type of thing has been happening regularly in Bangla road for each and every year.

it has to do with services available for tourists in that road, lack of enforcement of existing laws and the resultant type of tourist that frequents the area.

The Thai tourist industry reaps what it sows in areas like Bangla Road.

I agree...

The difference is NOT what is happening NOW but rather the fact that 20 years ago there was much LESS exposure on social media.

Nowadays, literally every inch of the roads is covered by CCTV and wannabe reporters/paparazzi who document every second of the day.

Add this to the fact that people spend more time on their phones that actually going about their jobs and you have the overexposure and the surplus of documentation about the daily  life...

Cock -fighting and kick boxing makes a lot of money! So, set up an arena, sell tickets, and let the agressive guys and gals get rid of their agressions in the arena, for the entertainment of the masses! Achieving a lot of international attention/ atracting more tourists?🤔

Roma docet...

As a person who has been visiting Patong, off and on, for over 20 years now I can quite honestly say that it has turned into one of the biggest slopholes on the planet. The time I spent in Gaza was more pleasant.

Just cross the bridge and you are back in paradise. Phuket is lost, though I would have loved it if I were not married with kids. What's there not to like: sex, drugs and cover bands. A young man's heaven.

This will not change as long as every foreigner, no matter how under-educated, can get a visa in Thailand:coffee1:

So you believe an education certificate should be provided when applying for a visa?

I’m here in Patong, but not sorry I missed it. I don’t need to see lowlife human beings behaving badly. I was listening to a great band with a great singer.

Tetosterone and alcohol.  If you target a younger audience to grow your tourist industry, those two ingredients are unavoidable.  Its nothing new, young men have been drinking and fighting since forever - including Thai's.

I think the difference now is that when many of us first came to Thailand, most tourists were older so less likely to fight.  I had (have) other interests 😉, fighting was never on my agenda.

I saw the same a couple of weeks ago in Chaweng. The man to lady ratio was a shock after visiting Green Mango area for 20+ years!

Pre-covid there was usually a fair number of western women among the party goers to distract the shirtless gym bunnies. This time it was virtually 100% men.

Too many men and not enough women = boredom = fighting. Maybe it's the same in Patong at the moment 🤷‍♂️

The Bhutan tourist tax would be something to look at.

Now, only highly educated, affluent, tourists would know of Bhutan's existence.

Following the video’s circulation online, numerous viewers have expressed concerns regarding the implications of the free visa policy for tourists.

Import 3rd World People.

Import 3rd World Problems.

As simple as that.

Since last year, Visa Waivers are from 93 countries, instead of 57...

A good idea.

But they may  get over it.

In the 3rd world countries, personal documents counterfeit is so rampant.

Even in Thailand, Fake ID shops are thieving  in a touristy area.

Tourist Restriction.

I wonder if you still remember mass Anti-Govt Movement during the previous military regime(at the time of C/virus pandemic).

And it is the nightmare to the ruling class of the kingdom.

Precisely!  If they want more tourism and to make travel hassle free - introducing more visas would not be a good idea. If they demanded that visa success depended on being a certain calibre of person - many won't be able to travel and others will just fake the documents.

Brawls go on in Thailand regularly - often between Thai's - university and technical college rivalry can be deadly - we just don't see it.

If Thailand wants more tourists with easy access - increased bad behaviour goes with the territory.
