Popular Post Social Media Posted January 28 Popular Post Posted January 28 Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman left the hosts of *The View* momentarily stunned during a Monday appearance, as he declined to join their pointed criticism of former President Donald Trump. Fetterman, known for his pragmatic approach, instead offered a balanced perspective on Trump’s actions and policies, leaving the panel visibly frustrated with his refusal to engage in partisan outrage. Sen. @JohnFetterman to #TheView: "[Trump] has been doing essentially what he actually campaigned on." "There's things I'm going to agree with, I'm going to disagree with, but I'm in the business of finding wins for Pennsylvania and for the nation and engaging the president." pic.twitter.com/96VIQ6N3is — The View (@TheView) January 27, 2025 Fresh from his recent inauguration appearance and a notable visit to Mar-a-Lago, Fetterman was asked to weigh in on Trump’s polarizing first week in office. His response set a tone of practicality rather than partisanship. “He’s been doing essentially what he actually campaigned on,” Fetterman stated. “There’s things I’m going to agree with, and things I’m going to disagree with. But I’m in the business of finding wins for Pennsylvania and for the nation and engaging the president.” The panel, typically vocal in their criticisms of Trump, offered only tepid applause. Alyssa Farah Griffin, the show’s most conservative voice, broke the silence, remarking, “Well said.” However, the tension escalated when Fetterman expressed his views on Trump’s legal battles. He described the 2023 prosecution of Trump in New York as “politically motivated,” a statement that visibly irritated the panel. “The trial in this city, in New York, was politically motivated,” Fetterman asserted. “That wouldn’t otherwise have been prosecuted if it was someone else.” This prompted co-host Sunny Hostin, a former legal analyst and attorney, to challenge him. “Just for clarification: Did you mean that the 34-count case in which Donald Trump was found guilty of various financial crimes was politically motivated here in New York?” she asked pointedly. Fetterman stood his ground, reiterating his stance. “Whether that’s a Democrat going after a Republican or a Republican going after a Democrat... I like to think I call it strikes and balls because the judicial system has to remain impartial. That’s really the cornerstone of our society. The judicial system [cannot be] weaponized [and target] political enemies for political gain.” Whoopi Goldberg, unimpressed with Fetterman’s remarks, interjected with a sarcastic comment. “Wouldn’t that be great if that’s actually the way that things worked?” she quipped. Fetterman, undeterred, refrained from taking the bait and shifted the conversation to his recent meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. “I think overall, it was a positive experience,” Fetterman shared. “I mean, he was cordial. It wasn’t in any kind of theater. It wasn’t trying to get your picture taken to kind of put something out on social media. It was just really a conversation.” He revealed that the meeting lasted over an hour and included discussions on topics like immigration and agriculture. “Overall, it was just a straight-up conversation,” Fetterman continued. “I just have a rule: I’m going to engage and have a conversation that’s anyone playing it straight, and that’s doing my job.” Fetterman’s measured approach, focusing on dialogue and impartiality rather than political grandstanding, left the typically outspoken hosts momentarily at a loss for words. His remarks served as a reminder of his commitment to pragmatic leadership and his willingness to engage across the aisle, regardless of public or partisan pressure. Popular Post Chomper Higgot Posted January 29 Popular Post Posted January 29 Fetterman’s Pennsylvania seat is narrowly contested, he’s playing to the center where he knows the votes are for the mid-terms. 2 2 2
Popular Post JonnyF Posted January 29 Popular Post Posted January 29 Good to see there is still a handful of reasonably intelligent Democrats around. I'm not sure The View is the place for such people though. They want guests who stick to the script. 1 4 2
Popular Post Hanaguma Posted January 29 Popular Post Posted January 29 It is lovely to see multi-millionaire Hostin trying so desperately to be outraged and rightous about her plight. Especially as she and her husband relax in their 10 bedroom Tudor style estate. She has never been the same since discovering (to her shame) that she is not actually Puerto Rican, but actually descended from Spanish colonizers and slave owners. 1 1 2

The View is 100% anti-Trump. Especially Whoopi. it is nice to see them put in their place to see an objective view rather than their one sided opinions against everything Trump says and does. 2 1 1

Typically hysterical, biased and hateful hosts would be more accurate 😆 1 1
Popular Post Nickcage49 Posted January 29 Popular Post Posted January 29 I don't see anything wrong with what he said. We all freaked out every time the orange one made a move last time, and we see where it got us: him back in the White House after a shaky four years under Biden. If more Democrats took this kind of attitude, we might have a chance to regain the White House and Congress. Fetterman is very much a common-sense guy. There's very little of that in politics. If our representatives on both sides of the aisle took that attitude, the government might start working for us again instead of making everything a partisan issue. 1 1 2

He does have his principles, and nothing he said or did deviated from a pragmatic common sense approach that he has always had. However, he does have common sense and that is to waste energy fighting over something that he cannot change. What he can do is to try and protect the interests of his constituents, many of whom voted for Trump, and who are now at risk of suffering serious negative consequences from the policies that Trump will enact. He is going to stand back while Trump digs a big hole for the Maga collective to fall into, all the while being respectful and co-operative. 1 1 1

Nonsense, as I said, he's always stood for his principles, this from back in Dec 2023 'I'm not a progressive': Fetterman breaks with the left, showing a maverick side Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., has drawn fire from progressives over his fierce support for Israel and broken with immigration advocates with his support for curtailing migration. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/-not-progressive-fetterman-breaks-left-israel-immigration-rcna129747 1
