Not so sure ex military officers are paid well enough for 24 security. However, trump is most definitely wealthy enough to pay for his and family security. Never did when family were on business trips during first Administration or in the US, nor will he do do this time around. Also trump begs MAGA world to pay for this legal costs - has trump ever dipped into his own funds for legal costs incurred due to his actions whilst President or ex President?

Perhaps this is a suitable post to reply that "I DON'T CARE". The entire US government is a sham IMO, so one more scammer isn't going to make any difference.

Tell me how Obama that never had a real job gets to afford beachfront property in Hawaii on a government salary?

Obama earned millions from his book.

First, the conservative news sites applaud this correct decision and your source is biased.

Second, Gen. Mark Milley deserves to be severely punished for his opposition to Trump while Milley was active-duty and Trump was President: This disloyalty to the Commander in Chief is called treason.

Nothing says you can't post, I just don't know why you feel the need to as an Australian, and especially a thread that seems to want to protection for  neocons and warmongerers that were involved in some of the wars started under obama. If anything you should be supporting Trump in removing their Gov taxpayer fundednsecurity, make them pay for their own, but because it IS Trump your moral compass has flipped 180.

Yep, as shameful as the Biden Administration refusing Presidential candidate JFK Jr a SSSA detail.
And explain why every retired General needs a US paid security detail.  Let the MIC pay.

Obama was President for eight years. He got a base salary of $400,000 pa with an expense allowance of $50,000 pa. The taxpayer footed the bill for his family's living expenses in the White House, he traveled on Air Force One. Probably never had to put his hand in his pocket.

Do the math.

I did the math.  It doesn't come out to $20 mil, which is the Hawaii plus the Martha's Vineyard.

Both of them waterfront, so he doesn't seem to believe that sea level rise poses a risk.  But that's another thread...

Milley should have been Court Martialed for his actions, and those who think otherwise are deranged by obsessive Trump hate.

He literally conspired with the enemy. So, can mentally incompetent people make legal decisions? I seriously doubt any of Bidens actions post confirmation he was mentally incompetent will stand. Bye bye pardons, hello justice

Even at the best, he violated the chain of command.

While I agree with the first part of your post, one way to root out corruption in military spending is to forbid the MIC from having anything to do with retired generals (and their immediate families) for at least 10 years after they retire.  Then the MIC can't influence the spending by promising cushy jobs and goodies when the generals leave the gub'ment.

Why does a has been former general even need a security detail?

Since you don't know anything, I can (try to) help.

Senior 4 stars, particularly those on the Joint Chiefs, "know stuff" that hostile actors---such as Putin---might want to know. The security detail is considered an investment in national security.

Perhaps you should have asked:

"Why does a former President, especially one who tried to overthrow the democratically-elected government and who stole hundreds of highly classified documents, need---even deserve---Secret Service protection? Didn't I see on his NFTs that he's a fighter pilot and an astronaut? A guy that gifted ought to be able to take care of himself."

He had a successful career as a lawyer prior to entering the White House. In 2009, his income was $5.5 million.

You are assuming there are no mortgages on the properties, and Michelle did not contribute. She worked as a lawyer too.

I don't know what he believes, but people with wealth are better insulated from climate change, and neither of us knows how elevated both properties are. Waterfront covers a range of elevations.

That may all be true.  But your suggestion was to do the math on $400K a year.  That's what I did.

$450K. Do you want a gold star for your forehead, or a Hopalong Cassidy badge?

He confused net worth with income. How funny is that?

It is quite possible you are alive today because of Gen Milley (though I'm not sure the species is better off for that).

After his loss and inability to accept defeat, 45 actually asked the Defense Dept about nuking China. He though if he started a nuclear war, he could declare a national emergency and remain in power. 45 was mouthing off about his idea in sessions with the Joint Chiefs, and Gen Milley feared that 45's total lack of control and whining about losing might have the guy Tweet or say something in a presser, which would get China to react and launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike on the US.

Gen Milley called his counterpart in China and told the general to ignore any bizarre statements and that adults were in control. Included in the adults, who discussed this matter and agreed Gen Milley should make the call were SecDef Esper, SecState Pompeo, and DCI Haspel.

There are a precious few people in history who saved the world from nuclear holocaust. Two are Russian and one is General Milley.

Yeah, Milley should be prosecuted for treason for that.

Instead, he gets a plush gig with Chase and a nice pension.

The people that saved the world are those conspiring with the enemy and blasting ballistic missiles 100s of miles deep inside Russia? One of your best yet🤣

Thank heavens we have capable and sane hands back on the tiller.
