700 Stray Dogs Starving in Thai Landfill - Rabies Fears Rise

This is a problem that can be solved if the government chose to earmark funds to spay and neuter all feral dogs as well as provide government subsidized spay and neuters services for Thai citizens with dogs.

The problem is solvable.  But like flooding, air quality, and traffic deaths?  They is no will to change.

Or at least desex them.

So their overall population will not grow.

And start to decline.

But they often hate it either.

but I believe they tried that in some areas, I just forget where it was.. and it was a failure,  the dogs were still a menace and a pest,  biting kids and folks going past.

either relocate them 1000klm's away or kill them.   problem solved.

In a dire situation in Chachoengsao province, over 700 stray dogs are starving at a local landfill, raising fears of a potential rabies outbreak as temperatures rise. Residents are calling on the government to urgently address the growing crisis.

On January 28, reporters visited the landfill in Mueang Hua Samrong, Plang Yao district, a remote area hemmed in by forests and accessible only by dirt roads. They found dogs in groups of 20 to 30, looking thin and scared. Many were retreating into the grass, and there were numerous dog carcasses, likely due to disease and hunger.

Pavannapat, a compassionate 49-year-old local, has spent her own money for the past year to feed these strays with rice, kibble, and water, costing her about 1,500 baht (US$45) on each visit. Despite her efforts, she can no longer manage the ever-growing dog population.

Faced with the rainy season, Pavannapat set up tarps to shelter the dogs. But as the hot season approaches, her worries increase about rabies spreading among the dogs and into nearby communities.

She is pleading for immediate action from the authorities to manage the stray dog issue and prevent a rabies outbreak before it gets worse. The situation demands urgent attention from government agencies to provide a solution, as Pavannapat’s personal resources are stretched thin, and the logistical challenges are overwhelming.

That picture is not the landfill rubbish dump location. Those dogs are from elsewhere.

The photo is just a file photo from their gallery.

Thank you for your reply.

So already some failed attempt to curb their population by sterilization?

Ah the usual doggie lover showing their hatred of anyone who does not agree with doggie worship. Soi dogs are vermin, some countries have the courage to deal with them such as cat loving Turkey but even there the stray problem was not as great as it is here. Compassion? where is that it letting diseased vermin stalk the sois causing all sorts of risks? Compassion would involve putting them down in a mass cull to stop the breeding and suffering. I don't think me going back where I came from is the answer, the answer is dog licensing with chipping the mutts and mass extermination of these unfortunate pests.

Wow, no more comments from dog lovers?

I love my Labrador, but I don't like those ferals. Put the down seems to be cruel but effective.

I like your comment ❤️

This story was back in July 2021 ....   but it's not the one I remember.

There is only one solution for this situation, euthernize them all and don't stop there.

I understand, in rural Thailand, dogs are a necessity. Everybody has dogs, I have a few dogs too.

First of all to keep those unwanted critters, snakes and rats, out of your property.

Second as an alarm for the 2 legged critters in the night. You can hear which route the drug-head takes at the wee hours thru the village.

Anyways, where I stay each dog has an owner as long no accident happens.

What I have learned is, that those soi dogs are actually usless. They don't care about anything as long their belly is full. My dogs aren't mutts, they are from the military and wor dog school which got discharge from the training, still good enough and well trained for every home.

I think that goes for all dogs, food is their only interest, try cutting it off and see how much they 'love' you 🤔

of course. Still I see a difference between my Labradors and the soi dogs, the Labrador is follow my around all day. The soi dog shows only up for food, the rest of the day they are invisible sleeping somewhere under a tree.

Anyways, I'm not denying that those 700 strays should end as fertilizer.

Always amazes me how people are so soft hearted and 'compassionate' about dogs and will describe themselves as animal lovers, while at the same time eating animals and supporting a cruel and often barbaric meat industry. They always say there is a difference between domestic pets and livestock, but the only difference is in their minds, they are all animals. Pigs, cows and sheep are no different to dogs they are all mammals. These dogs are vermin and should be done away with.

Honestly, they should be captured and exported to other countries(e.g. Vietnam and China) where they consume these animals as food.

If they do that, they can turn the nuisance into usable resource.

As well as new income and employment opportunities will be created.

doesn't sound as if they are at all consumable.
