It's hard to believe that someone could be going to a Thai shop in Thailand for years, but then pulled the "if I just say the word in English slower and louder they're bound to understand" cliché...

And you are correct.  Of the three, Aussies are the more mentally challenged and have a limited lexicon. :coffee1:

Really? The coprophagocytes are posting early this morning.

Brits do say mate but only to someone when they actually are a mate. Aussies say it to everyone because a large number have an extremely limited vocabulary and/or are too intellectually challenged to actually remember anyone's name. I think that is the main difference.

Or we couldn't give a sheep shag in hell as to their name   :wai:

Thai's don't understand ' large '  .....   you should have said the ' big '  one ...  or big box .....

as for the Brit,  you should have tried to smooth the issue over,  and calm him down.

Interesting point that.  Girls will always exclaim "ooohhh....very big!", and yet ordering a large Chang or Leo, etc. is the norm, S or L on the pricelist, not S or B

Some basic Thai might come in handy after all these years.

Big/large =yai ใหญ่

Small = เล็ก lek

comes in very handy when ordering beer.

So if I asked an American policeman, "Where can I buy some fags for my mate"? It would be a problem?😉

Maybe potentially solicitation. 🙂

   Rather odd then, that you don't know how to say "big/large" in Thai .

If they keep saying that you are big, then how come you don't know the word in Thai ?

I just use my hands:

 – Palms, almost together = SMALL

-  Palms, wide apart = BIG

Always works, no need to open your mouth.
