Transferring money out of Thailand

I'd like to transfer some money out of Thailand. I'm looking at using using some kind of online banking or funds transfer app.

 

I already have, Revolut, Wise and K+ (Kasikorn Bank) apps. I've only ever used Wise for incoming transfers, thus far.

 

Does anyone have any experience and/or recommendations on which would be better to use?

 

Or is there another different app which people prefer?

Try DeeMoney... used them a few times with no problems...

I've used deeMoney in the past (but only for about 500,000 baht).

 

I recently transfered a larger amount out of Thailand via Crypto

 

i.e. for example.. (amounts are not true)

5 Million Baht in Bitcoin held on BitKub

Transfered to a ColdWallet 

Transfer from Cold Wallet to Kraken (could be any - binance etc)

Transfer from Kraken to your overseas account

 

You could make the transfer direct from Bitkub to Kraken but I'm not sure about other issues, taxes etc.

Thailand makes it nearly impossible to transfer money out of Thailand unless you have a work permit. However, Bangkok Bank's app allows international transfers out of Thailand with no questions asked up to about 1 million thb/day.

 

After years of working in Thailand, I wanted to send my savings back to the U.S. I was distraught to find out no banks would do it because my work permit was now canceled. Using the Bangkok Bank app solved the problem.

Regulations are not so strict anymore. Several banking apps offer international transfers, I have UOB several times for this purpose.

Sending how much?  Western Union (Thailand) online can register online at home and then send 100,000 a time.  Can send more if register in person.

It's more than 100,000 but I suppose I could send it in several chunks if necessary.

Cheapest way I found was Bkk bank, 1050BT ill fees included,  any amount, don't need an account either.

I posted a while ago, before leaving Thailand, what I did with the transfer of my funds.
With pictures of the transer.
I used Bank to Bank transfer and that was super cheap and fast.
UOB bank was in Euro and Bangkok Bank account was in USD.
Wise insisted on change the funds to Thai baht first and then from Thai baht back to Eur.

I sent some money to the UK via Kbank's website yesterday, they only have a bank account so I had to use SWIFT.

To complete the SWIFT transfer I had to check a box saying the funds were from "Working in Thailand".  There was no way to get it to complete without checking the box.  

I called Kbank after to ask why, seeing as I am retired and don't work. 

A very nice sounding young woman, with near perfect English explained that if a Foreigner wants to send money out and they are not working here, then they should go into the bank.   Apparently you need proof of where the funds are from and what you are sending the funds out for.  

Normally I use WISE (even for this recipient as I have her bank account linked to WISE), but for the past 4 days none of my cards have been working with WISE.  WISE say there is no issue on their end, whereas Kbank (same girl) told me they've been having lots of reports from customers of cards being rejected in the last week.

I asked if ticking the "working in Thailand" box would get me into trouble, ie expose me to tax and she said no, but at the moment, but it *could* later.  

A lot of hassle to send 50 quid to someone who only has a bank account.

As regards a request to the SCB to transfer 50K baht out of the country :

It could be sent (1) to a personal named account in another country, or (2) to a company's account in another country if an invoice for the exact amount could be provided.

Unfortunately, neither of these conditions could be met as the money was intended for a brokerage-type account for investment.

 

And the intended-recipient company required that the money come from the Thai bank account that was designated to be linked to the investment account they provide.
As this intended transfer was not for myself, the money could therefore not be routed through my UK bank account.

 

The only possibility, the SCB said, was to apply to The Bank of Thailand for exemption from the rule.

I have not had a WP since 2012 and have never had a problem transferring money out of Thailand from Kasikornbank using a Swift account.  Next time I transfer, if that comes from winning the lottery, I plan to try Dee Money. (I don't think WISE has the ability to do a THB to USD transfer).

I just checked whether Western Union is available online, as I've only ever used it the old manual way and I can't be bothered with that.  Seems you can now use it to send online and to a bank account, so the recipient doesn't need to go out to get the money. 

Do you have Western Union connected to your Thai bank?  If the banks have to get info such as where you got the funds from, why you are sending it out of the country etc...  And presuming Western Union don't ask too many questions, then that might be a solution.

About 6 months ago I successfully used the international transfer option on KPlus on my smartphone, about 5,000Baht sent to awell known bank in England. 

 

Ultimate recipient of the funds in England confirmed receipt of the funds (in pounds) within 24 hrs of sending from Thailand.

 

But this can only be used if the receiving bank is within the list on the KPlus app.

Thanks for the info. In the K+ app I see two options: transfer with account number via SWIFT and transfer with account number via KBank partners.

 

Is there a benefit to using one rather than the other, as far as you know?

I use the Western Union Thailand app and all my transfers are paid via QR code from one of my Thai bank accounts.

 

You don't need to link a specific Thai bank account to the app - whenever you make a transfer, the app will generate a PromptPay QR code and you can pay from any of your Thai bank apps.

 

The Western Union app asks for the purpose of each transfer, you just select it from a list. As far as your Thai bank is concerned, that is just another domestic PromptPay QR code payment, no questions asked.

No expert but my understanding is that banks prefer to do international transfers using a SWIFT code. From my understanding the SWIFT code is seen as very safe and quick.

 

Other members maybe know more about this.

Kasikorn have international transfers on their App. Have you tried it?
