I did not 'put a downer' on it. I merely expressed my thoughts and what I had seen on UK TV.

You try cooking a meal for 4 even in a dual large sized one.

Your 'thoughts' included reheating chips in a microwave when you have an air fryer to warm everything properly.

Any reason why the chips and roast couldn't go back in together at the same time?

Obviously your assumption is that all air fryers are small 😊

But let's not allow facts to get in the way of your story. You don't have any experience with one, you just wanted to post your negative thoughts.

The question I have is do they use alot of electricity,   more than a toaster oven ?   more than a steamer  ?

Air fryers use less electricity than a conventional oven. Smaller cooking volume, cook faster.

Mine is the most basic, 200 C fixed temperature. According to the label, 1200 watt.

I use mine for cooking protein only. Beef, fish, chicken. gammon ham, pork, sausages and burgers.

A meat thermometer tells me when the food is done, anything > 70 C.

Cleaning is so easy. I line the tub with aluminium foil, a quick spray of olive oil. Discard the foil after the tub cools down.

So you want a meal of roast chicken, potatoes and say roasted veggies, with some sauce.

You have to cook each item individually in the air fryer, chips taking about 20 minutes, the chicken 30 and veggies say 10. You then need to keep that lot warm in the proper oven, or let 'em go cold and microwave them (chips? ugggh) And still use a pan on the hob to do your gravy. Even the OP photo shows two meagre portions of chips.

I watched a programme on UK Ch4 where they got three cooks, one a novice, one in between and an expert, who all said this same thing. Only two of them produced better chips. Stir fried some meal....useless. Most useful for a lazy parent who has two kids and gives them nuggets and chips, ready in 20 minutes. Chip pan, done in 10.

I shall stick with what me Mum used and taught me.

If you knew about cooking, you'd know you need to rest meat after cooking.

Cook the chicken first, whilst it's resting there is plenty of time to cook your potatoes and veg (together by adding the veg to the potatoes during the last 10 minutes of cooking).

In fact , the older we get the less we eat.

Only eat twice a day now. Mostly skip lunch having a light snack instead.

Which makes you wonder why some of our older members are obese

Sunflower oil deep fried Farmhouse Country fries, from Makro, are as good as THE best UK chippies you've ever had.

An air fryer can't come close

Unhealthy though, fresh cut chips with a slight coating of oil in the air fryer are very good, and a lot healthier

My new kitchen companion is a Breadmaker. Bht 4000 from Shopee, Haefle make.

Brilliant.

Make a 500gm loaf every two or 3 days, 50/50 wheat and rye flour, coconut oil, or did one using better & honey instead of sugar. Fantastic for sarnie lovers.

Used it to mix and prove and knead pizza dough. Best I ever had.

Where do you get the flour from?

I don't even notice the cost on my electricity bill, it's low

Very convenient for kids meals like sausages and chips, chicken tenders etc. Microwave veg while it’s cooking.

i also occasionally bake two loaves of bread in mine when i can be bothered to mix it all up. Bake two because one disappears almost immediately.

Stand alone air fryers are a waste of time. Hard to clean, etc. Get a good toaster oven that air fries. I threw out the conventional air fryer and got a breville air fryer oven. A little expensive but well worth it.

Too much work to download a pic so I can post it.

Bread flour from Lotus or Makro, rye flour from Shopee.

I think they cook chicken and meat faster than a toaster oven   ?   a toaster over takes a while .....

From a Shopee advert.

TEFAL Air Fryer Digital 6L Model EY821868 Product Description Power 1,835 W Capacity 6 liters, cooks for 8 people, up to 1 kg.

So most are around the 1500 to 2000 watt region. But read this BS. Cooks for 8 people up to 1 kg.....that's 125gms per person.

I have known many people with them, and are mostly used for chips and chicken. You are suggesting to cook the two separately, and then put them both back in again to warm them up. Silly idea.

And they are not much good for stir frying Thai style food.

I realise that you are in love with yours, but you still need the more conventional ways of cooking as well. How do you bake a 12 inch pizza?

I have an all in one thing: Oven, micro, hot steam, hot air and a few I might have missed.

Best thing I ever bought. So don't need Airfryer.

What make and model please. Sound just the job.

Same as an air fryer. Can do both, not simultaneously obviously.

If you plan on buying one, make sure it's an 'air fryer' and not simply a convection oven with strong fans, though nothing wrong with that.

Some of the photos posted look to be just that.  Air fryers operates a wee bit differently.  As stated earlier, our 56L oven was advertised, labeled as 'air fryer' and it certainly is not.  Excellent oven though, but the air does not circulate the same.

I bought one specifically to be able to have roast dinner from time to time, and very handy for many things in a non-oven apartment.  Veg/gravy on the hob.  Cooking order;

1. Yorkshire to 75% done.

2. Pork

3. Spuds

4. Yorkshire

Do you have to add a small amount of water in the bottom of the pan ?  is that for all air fryers ..

I just read that on one model .... to add a tablespoon of water in the bottom grooves.

??

Toshiba model I don't know and its a bit old right now so they would have replaced it with newer models. Not cheap mind you.

When I do veggies, mostly roast red peppers, do them in 'bulk', a whole cookie sheet or 2.

Don't think it's a good idea to use "cookie sheets" , as air friers have a gap under the tray for hot air to flow through. Cookie sheets will stop that flow.

Get a Breadmaker machine. Takes 1 minute to weigh and put everything in. 3 hours later..............mmmmm
