A devastated mother is demanding justice after her three year old son was viciously attacked by a Bangkaew dog in the Kapoe district of Ranong, leaving him with a severe head injury.

 

The shocking incident occurred on February 1 while little Thanawat Makmun was playing outside his home. Without warning, the dog, owned by local Pramote Sae-lo, lunged at the child, biting his head and ear before fleeing.

 

His mother, Rungthiva Rueang-on, rushed him to Kapoe Hospital, where he received urgent treatment. The next day, she filed a police complaint, calling for legal action against the dog’s owner.

 

“About nine children were playing outside when the dog ran up and bit my son from behind. I immediately rushed him to the hospital but the dog owner did nothing to help.”

 

After confronting the owner’s family, they initially agreed to cover medical costs, offering 10,000 baht. However, Rungthiva demanded 50,000 baht, citing the severity of her son’s injuries, but the family refused.

 

 

“My child suffered a serious injury. He had to get stitches, and now he is terrified at night.”

 

With no resolution reached, she has now turned to a lawyer for further legal action.

 

Phuket-based lawyer Yarak Phethin, assisting the family, stressed that dog owners can face up to two years in prison under the Criminal Code if their pet causes harm due to negligence, reported The Phuket News.

 

As police continue their investigation, Rungthiva is urging dog owners to secure their pets properly.

 

“My son was badly hurt but what if it’s worse next time?”

Justice would be the death of the dog, but that's a bit much to hope for here, why not let him free to have another go! I expect she is more interested in the cash.

Dog needs a bit of lead behind the ear, and the owner.

Someone will be along soon to offer the mutt some rice.

Seems as though the AN jury has decided on this one and the dog has to die.

I don't suppose that nine kids running around, shouting and screaming and possibly taunting the dog has any chance of being the case.

Unfortunately, the dog cannot defend itself.

Come on, where are the it's the owners fault there are no bad dogs comments 😊

When was the last time you heard of a golden retriever doing this ?

Medical cover offered but never any compensation for suffering... TiT

another case of blaming the victim!

Kids run around, shouting and screaming. That's what kids do. I'd be surprised if they were playing on the dog owner's property though, and that is where the dog should have been.

I can't imagine a Golden Retriever reacting like that to kids shouting and screaming. 

Dogs here have tougher lives than where im from, seems to be why this stuff happens more here

Who else's fault would this be? You usually are against the pitts, but this was a Thai Bangkaew. Dogs are supposed to be trained not to be vicious. if the kids taunted it, it's partly to blame on them. If not, the owner takes responsibility, like this one did.

Dogs, along with children, aren't cared for like they are in the west, which leads to many problems. A puppy or kitten is cute, but when it grows into a dog, it's largely forgotten by many (not all), and left to wander and cause problems, and also to make other puppies, which repeats the cycle.

No, justice would be the owner going to prison for a few years, paying all medical bills and some restitution to the kid, say, $1 million baht.

The child in the OP image looks to be younger than 3 years old.

Ultimately it is the fault of the Thai government that have failed to make any enforceable laws regarding dog attacks and soi dog packs . Owners of dogs that cause injury to people should be penalized ( jailed and fined ) . Dog owners should keep their dogs within their property and not allowed to roam the streets . Thailand needs a dog cull and that includes any dog on the streets , be it owned or not . Cambodia , another Buddhist country does not suffer from uncontrolled dogs .

Tired of reading about this never ending dangerous-dogs stories as nothing ever will be done to change the situation/problem in Thailand.

Yes, I understand. Some people are saying it's the fault of the kids because they were yelling and screaming around the dog. I don't. My point is the dog is the problem. Had kids done this around a Golden Retiriever or other dog with a calm nature, I doubt this sort of thing would have happend.

Some true but culling dogs isn't the answer. A stepped up spay/neuter program that the government pays for shows responsibility and care. Cambodia suffers from much the same problems, including slaughtering dogs for meat, rabies, over population, dropping dogs off at Pagodas, abuse, neglect, stealing dogs for the meat trade, lack of vet care, and others............https://www.four-paws.org/campaigns-topics/topics/help-for-stray-animals/stray-animal-care-cambodia

Any dog who bites any human being in a serious manner should be put down within 24 hours, no questions asked, and no appeals possible. Dogs should never be given priority over humans and doing so is a sign of a broken society. Not only that but the owner should face a massive fine, there's just no excuse to have a poorly behaved dog who's aggressive toward others, especially defenseless children.

Spraying nor neutering will stop the dogs attacking humans or causing traffic accidents by running out on the road . Soi dogs often form a pack and will defend their own domain especially if a stranger comes close to them . Where I live I had to stop my early morning walks because of snarling dogs . Indeed there are some no go areas where packs of dogs live . Any dog that attacks a human should be put down . Stray soi dogs should be rounded up and if not claimed by a responsible person who can show that the dog will be kept within their property , be humanly put down . Maybe the introduction of a dog licence should be considered . Owned dogs should be chipped or collared . 

Thus reducing the threat of rabies and excrement on the streets .

Spaying and neutering is the only human way to control the "population", which is the problem.Reduce the number of births, normal mortality still happens, population decreases, problems decrease. Dogs that attack humans should be put down, unless the humans are harming the dogs and it's defending itself. Otherwise the normal regulations that happen in the west should be in effect.

Another tragedy caused by do-gooder attitude(toward strays) and apathy among the  public here.

 

Pretty much like the misplaced  love of animals.

 

Every time any dogs pose threat to me, I immediately shoot them with this(always with me while I am outside home).

One squeeze and they dash away.

To the victim's family member, the monetary compensation is the most realistic form of justice.

As it helps to cover the cost of her child's medical treatment.

Without that incident, that family didn't have to shell out not a small amount of money for cure.

There is one nasty half-stray in my neighborhood as well.

While its color is black and white.

Truly hopelessly stupid dog.

Shot by my teargas spray a few times, and still doesn't learn.

Needless vicious bark when it sees me in the street and get shot again.

While most others learn very fast not to do it(understanding barking results in chili-vinegar jet onto own face).

In Thailand, stray dog life is surprisingly easy and comfortable.

Usually fed by town folks.

Periodically get a Raby vaccinations and anti-tick spraying from the government.

In addition, no freezing cold winter.

It is far from Tough Life you imagine.
