The article mentions the case of Andrew Hopkins , suggesting he was unfortunate. If you see the CCTv footage of Mr Hopkins, you will see that he is a liar !,, he is clearly seen purposefully breaking the sign/barrier he claims to have “ accidentally “ damaged !!

Thai justice system is to put everybody in jail, for whatever instead of other kind of punishments.. This case could be solved easily.. fine her for overstaying and deport her.. instead of put her in jail, but probably she had not enough money to bribe an official or refused to give other services.

In another "Headline" post it is  described as "Sin City", which I think is more appropriate!

"Sleaze-by-the-Sea" has always been my favorite.

Since when has it become a big deal to overstay your visa?Rules are constantly changing so need to be alert of the changes. Old days 50 baht a day for over stays. In saying that in the 70s one budha stick could land you 12 months in those <deleted> hole prisons. Now legal dope stores every 20 meters.

She was previously deported and has come back. Non compliance with the. immigration rules after a previous incident is a serious offence. Add to that the circumstantial allegation that she  is a prostitute  and it doesn't look good.

My  guess is that she has  pissed off a Russian pimp and the Russians aren't helping as a means of teaching her a lesson.

Overstaying for a short time is usual not an imprisonable offense. Must be more to the story.

Obviously, that's the point of the law, just as it is in every country, particularly for repeat offenders.

Except the UK....maybe?

Those who overstay their UK visas aren't at risk of expulsion?

Getting strict on immigration laws is one thing that I agree on, but damn, isn't it possible to be a bit "human"? Why treat people like garbage? Land Of Smiles....yeah... sure...😫

How do you suggest recidivist, illegal visa overstayers who may be on the game are treated?

Nonsense, not everyone is put in jail and that is not the practice here.  Her case will be solved easily, there is no difficulty there.  She will be fined for her repeat overstay and deported when she comes up with money for the ticket.  You think she should be free to make her own way to the airport at her leisure?  What do they do with repeat overstayers in your country?

Considering that there is a window that she could simply pay the fine and go on with things I again think whoever wrote this trash is missing the PLOT.

What is "the window" that allows overstayers  to "simply pay the fine and go on with things"?  Is that found at Immigration offices?

I wonder why we're seeing a string of "banged up and abused by Thai immigration" stories?

Because people are now aware that they can make money from their stupid transgressions.

On a normal 10 day overstay, you pay the fine, fly home and get banned for a year or two. Something is different here.

Yes, sure is, the difference is that she was not at the airport on her way out where the conditions you reference would apply.  She was arrested and her overstay discovered, that means detention and deportation.

Escort?

Previously expelled?

Now new experience as an upgrade🤗

Dubai, back to Thailand ----Escort??

Why dont the parents put up her airfare and get her out, another mystery.

Thailand LOS/ LOM land of mysteries

Overstaying your visa is illegal.  If you overstay for a short period you will have to pay a fine.  However,  if you overstay for more than 90 days then it is a serious offence and the result will be you are deported from Thailand and banned from visiting again.  The length of the ban depends on how long you have overstayed your visa.

If you are caught overstaying by an Immigration officer, then it can result in being taken to jail if you are not able to pay the fine or have a long overstay.
