What is "the window" that allows overstayers  to "simply pay the fine and go on with things"?  Is that found at Immigration offices?

Maybe they are.

It sounds like Mom and Dad are washing their hands of her.  If you overstay you usually pay the fine and leave on 10  day. N muss no fuss  But to lock up someone and the way it is written it is long term.  I would think that for 10 days, they would simply hold her in Pats, get the money sorted, and take her to Swampy instead of IDC for normal.

BUT

She then returned to Thailand but failed to renew her visa. Despite her past success as a model, reports claim she is now stranded with no money for a ticket home after falling out with her parents. Some Russian news outlets suggest she worked as an escort, a claim her family strongly denies.

Overstaying for a short time is usual not an imprisonable offense. Must be more to the story.

She is not being "imprisoned", she will be detained at IDC pending deportation which is completely normal for overstayers arrested before leaving at the airport, especially those who have been banned from the country previously.

Wasn't there a thread from some guy on here who had overstayed for a decade (or more) and wanted to know what might happen when he went to leave ?  A pity the thread was locked. i'd have loved to have know if it went well for him, could have show him this article 🙂

I'm curious as to how she was let back into the country if she was booted out once before ?

As to the quips that this is only an article because she's a pretty girl, maybe they are unaware of how the world works ?

I also have zero idea why she's not been bailed by one of her dozen boyfriends.   Whole story is bemusing really 🙂

You don't understand why those banned from the country who commit further overstay offences aren't allowed bail?  Seriously?

Dubai, back to Thailand ----Escort??

Why dont the parents put up her airfare and get her out, another mystery.

Thailand LOS/ LOM land of mysteries

Overstaying your visa is illegal.  If you overstay for a short period you will have to pay a fine.  However,  if you overstay for more than 90 days then it is a serious offence and the result will be you are deported from Thailand and banned from visiting again.  The length of the ban depends on how long you have overstayed your visa.

If you are caught overstaying by an Immigration officer, then it can result in being taken to jail if you are not able to pay the fine or have a long overstay.

Dubai's full of Russians. So no business for her. Therefore Thailand again. Obviously not the brightest candle since she was expelled before. Detention will teach her a lesson.

Putting her case asside , IMO the IDC is a complete disgrace to Thailand and it should be ashamed of this facilty. Some people have been incarcerated there for years with no end in site. An example is the fate of the Uygurs.

A while back there was a story about a British woman being banged up for trying to collect a debt. Her cell looked like the Hilton compared to the IDC.

People who get stopped at the airport with a short overstay get charged 500 baht a day. Those who get scooped up in a prostitution raid get slammed into a detention centre.

Not saying what happened in this case, but those are general facts.

You wonder if she spoke out against the war with the Ukraine. Or did not support the current regime? That could get her in real trouble and Russia's allies would not be lenient with her. Whoever those allies might be.

Old days

Old days were the same - if you were caught on the street - if you arrive at the airport to depart the country, you can still visit the overstay counter and pay 50 baht.

Not her first rodeo.

It is claimed she had been previously thrown out of Thailand and deported to Russia after running into issues on a previous visit.  She then went to Dubai for several months, before returning to Thailand.

Oh please spare me this crap everyday I go to Nai Harn Beach and see these Russian bimbos with the old fat men because there being paid as holiday girlfriends or just pimping there asses for money.

The Russians are here causing so much trouble working illegally everywhere.

Thailand needs to do what Sri Lanka did a year ago cancel every Russian visa and kick them all out 300,000 of them booted out

As long as he made it to the airport without being detained then he would have had a 20,000 baht fine (the overstay is capped at that amount). and after paying it would be put on his plane.

Immigration doesn't hold you very long for just overstay. They charge you, fine you, ban you, and put you on the next flight back to your passport country, unless there are other criminal charges, or you can't pay the fine, and for the plane ticket. I doubt she doesn't have money.

Is there a number of days of overstay where you just pay a fine per day and the IO doesn't black list you or jail you ?

Or just 10 days is enough for such harsh punishment ?

Pure curiosity of what the law says ...

Really wonder why she didn't fix it at immigration . Maybe someone wanted to teach her a lesson ?

There is always a back-story.  Here too no doubt.  Bottom line: Don't Overstay. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Break the law, do the time.
I wish immigration would start doing more of this to teach people that this isn’t a do as you want country without consequences.

We all know they won’t because it might harm their stellar reputation 🤣🤣

Are you quoting from somewhere? Or reading between the lines?
I read "Allegations surfaced that Tikhomirova was previously expelled from Thailand due to legal issues before temporarily relocating to Dubai."

On a normal 10 day overstay, you pay the fine, fly home and get banned for a year or two. Something is different here.

Yes, if you get detected at the airport, as most do. However, if you are detected in another way like an accident, random stop eg then you will be detained at a police station and eventually sent to IDC.

So many people just pay at the airport that some have developed a casual attitude to it. It can have serious consequences tho

Under no circumstances should a person ever be put into the general prison population, much less any prison, for a visa overstay.

This is overkill to a ridiculous and spectacularly silly extent. Hopefully it will continue to soil Thailand's reputation, they richly deserve it for a stunt like this.

It's called a deterrent, hence the small number of idiots flouting Thai law in the IDC

In a troubling incident, Alexandra Tikhomirova, a former Little Miss Russia, finds herself in a harrowing predicament in Thailand, reportedly enduring challenging conditions in a notorious Thai detention centre.

The 23-year-old, who gained fame for her childhood beauty queen title in 2013, is accused of overstaying her visa by a mere 10 days, leading to her detainment in Pattaya.

Held in confinement with limited access to basic necessities, Tikhomirova is alleged to be sharing her cell with more hardened criminals, a situation that has raised alarms among human rights advocates. Reports indicate that she is likely to be moved to Bangkok’s grim Immigration Detention Centre (IDC), an overcrowded facility notorious for its dire conditions.

The IDC routinely accommodates double its intended capacity, with detainees, including vulnerable women and children, suffering in lengthy detentions before facing deportation proceedings.

The young model’s plight has caught significant attention in Russia. Allegations surfaced that Tikhomirova was previously expelled from Thailand due to legal issues before temporarily relocating to Dubai. Upon her return to Thailand, she failed to renew her visa, leading to her current legal troubles.

Despite allegations from some media outlets suggesting she may have worked as an escort, her family firmly denies these claims, asserting her innocence and expressing their support.

Family members, shocked by the situation, stress that Tikhomirova, once a talented gymnast and successful model, holds a different ethos. Maria, a relative, lamented the assumptions circulating about her, declaring, “Her parents care about her, they have a good family.”

As the legal case progresses, Tikhomirova faces a troubling future in the infamous Thai judicial system. Human rights observers express concern over the IDC’s deteriorative environment, highlighting the urgency for reform and the humane treatment of detainees, irrespective of their infractions.

In parallel, other foreign nationals have also encountered unexpected legal troubles in Thailand. British citizen Andrew Hopkins recently experienced a misadventure while on holiday.

Hopkins, hoping for a relaxing time in the sun-drenched haven of Pattaya, instead ended up facing legal and physical trials following an innocuous misunderstanding. His incident underscores the sometimes unpredictable legal landscape faced by visitors.

Thailand's immigration laws are strict, with visa overstays routinely resulting in detention and deportation. Individuals travelling to the country are reminded to thoroughly understand and comply with visa conditions to avoid similar situations.

With Tikhomirova's current reliance on possible diplomatic intervention, her ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and potential perils foreign nationals may face abroad, as reported by The Thaiger.

This has more to do with her previous history than her overstay. As regards being an escort who knows but there would not be a shortage of offers if she was a hooker. Me included 😉
