Starmer: US Security Guarantee is the Only Path to Peace in Ukraine

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has declared that a "US security guarantee" is the only way to ensure peace in Ukraine and deter further Russian aggression. Speaking in Paris after an emergency summit with European leaders, he emphasized that a "US backstop" is crucial to preventing another attack on Ukraine by Moscow.

"This is an existential question for Europe as a whole, and therefore vital for Britain's national interests," Starmer said, adding that the current geopolitical landscape demands a shift in approach. "This is a once-in-a-generation moment for the collective security of our continent. We are in a new era in which nations cannot cling hopelessly to the comforts of the past."

During his discussions at the Élysée Palace with leaders from France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the European Union, as well as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Starmer reiterated that any peace agreement must safeguard Ukraine’s sovereignty and deter Russian President Vladimir Putin from future aggression.

"Europe must play its role, and I'm prepared to consider committing British forces on the ground alongside others if there is a lasting peace agreement," Starmer stated.

He also announced that he will be traveling to Washington next week to meet with US President Donald Trump to discuss what the UK sees as "key elements of a lasting peace" for Ukraine.

Despite concerns about shifting US priorities, Starmer expressed confidence that Washington would remain committed to NATO. "It is clear the US is not going to leave NATO," he said. "But we Europeans will have to do more. The issue of burden sharing is not new, but it is now pressing, and Europeans will have to step up, both in terms of spending and the capabilities that we provide."

The prime minister revealed that he had spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday and would do so again in the coming days. "We envisage further engagement with European colleagues when I return from the US," he added.

Britain, he insisted, would continue to take "a leading responsibility, as we always have," stressing that "democracy must prevail."

US President Donald Trump has previously stated that the United States no longer sees the defense of Europe as its primary concern and has called on European nations to increase their defense spending.

When asked by Sky News Europe correspondent Adam Parsons whether the US had undermined the UK, Europe, and Ukraine by unilaterally initiating talks with Russia, Starmer responded that Washington, like Ukraine, wanted "lasting peace." He reinforced his view that a "US backstop" was essential to any credible security guarantees for Ukraine.

Don't forget to take Lammy with you (make sure he doesn't forget his passport).

That way, Trump will have two individuals that have formerly insulted him in the most vicious way. Trump doesn't give a monkey's what this pair of Woke, socialist muppets have to say on any issue, let alone Ukraine.

Hopefully he books you bunk beds in a dorm at the local YMCA. Maybe save yourself a trip and focus on the plethora of serious issues in your own country before posing for the cameras on the global stage. Again.

Just the other day 2 tier Kier was pretending like the UK still had Ukraine's back and would be sending troops to fight off the evil "orks"  knowing full well that  even if he sent everything the UK has (bar nukes) it wouldn't even touch the sides...pathetic !

He should use those troops to secure UK borders  but even that seems an impossible task.
