There is a Petition now in motion to try and bring the UKgovernment to account regarding our static pension (no yearly increase ).

I happened upon this website  a few days ago but I have known about the pension situation about a year ago (I have been here 2 years ) and it was quite a shock to know that the pension will always remain the same .

Please sign the petition it is a very easy process it will ask for your name and email address....it will send you an email immediately , open up you email, click on the link and thats it all done and if you have a mind to repost this message PLEASE . Thanks Dave B.

Moonlover.....I think thats another link....There could be many

You provided the link to the 'acknowledgment' page post signing. But I've just revisited it and I noticed that has a link back to the petition page, but some folks might not notice.

No harm in 'belt and braces'. 😀

Moonlover....Its actually a DIFFERENT petition !

Yes, there are actually 3 petitions running simultaneously, all of which ought to be of interest to us, which is why I brought them to the forum's attention.

The one calling for relief from taxing the state pension is of particular interest to me. Not only is my state pension frozen, its taxed as well!

A double insult IMO!

Hahahahahaha

As of April 2022 the number of pensioners affected is around 492,000

Unfrozen pension is never going to happen under current Labour Government

Can you imagine someone suggesting to Starmer that he should implement a policy that Corbyn had in his 2019

manifesto

The former is of interest to all citizens, no matter where they live.

Of the latter, there was another petition on this very topic not so long ago. Voter fatigue I think it's known as.

Unfreezing is not going to happen under ANY government.

There is little national sympathy for our situation ("you chose to live there etc....") and there is certainly no motivation for the politicians to change anything.

Easier just to not tell anyone you moved!

And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to defraud the DWP....

Hang on to your hat , they be a'comin , the holier than thou brigade..

What happens when they look at your passport at renewal time and see years of visa extensions showing it's obvious you don't live in the UK.?

Lost or Slolen.

In that case Thai immigration will have it on record as missing so you would not be able to present it with your re entry permit, you could start over again with another visa I guess

They didn't notice last renewal.

Don't think they bother looking in the old passport.

They want colour photocopies of every page sent to Liverpool if you renew in Bangkok, better do it at home, probably on the 4 hour service

When I did lose my passport in Italy and had it replaced, I came back VE and had it updated at Immigration.

No way with Trillions in debt and future growth projected to be minimal.

The answer would be to succed to the U.S.  3 to 4 times a UK pension with nice raises every year.

Many years ago, the Thai authorities did request a similar agreement with the UK, but their request was not even acknowledged....

Nonsense.Produce some evidence.

On the broader question, there's no doubt the freezing of the state pension is unfair. It however only requires an elementary understanding of pressures on the British economy to realize unfreezing is not going to happen.Whether British retirees dependent on the state pension should retire or even think about retiring in Thailand is another question for another day.

Pressures on the UK economy not being helped by spending over 8 million a day looking after illegal immigrants, we should not even be feeding them!

I am in no position to comment, since I am from the USA.

However, it seems to me that retirees who live abroad are reducing the load on the UK system.

NHS, other government services, road congestion, limited housing, etc.

All of that seems like it would be far more than the inflation adjustment.

The UK government should see this as coming out ahead.
