Fed-Up Bangkok Locals Demand Action on Rowdy Foreign Renters

Residents of a Bangkok condo are fed up with noisy tourists disrupting their once tranquil home. Foreign renters have made loud parties, the smell of cannabis, and pool rule-breaking common, sparking frustration among long-term residents.

 

The problem was highlighted on popular Facebook page Drama-addict, which featured a resident's plea. "My condo faces daily rental issues too," the post lamented, noting how tourists disrespect community rules.

 

A key concern is the round-the-clock pool partying, with cannabis openly smoked, making others uncomfortable. Security has been undermined by key cards hidden in a cabinet near the garage, enabling easy access for short-term renters.

 

 

Despite a face scanner installed last year, key cards are still in use. "This undermines security," a resident said, highlighting the condo's reluctance to abandon key cards for convenience.

 

Frustrated residents have sought help from police and local offices, but have seen no action. "We've complained for a year, but nothing's changed," one resident said, annoyed by bureaucracy.

 

Residents are urging the government to enforce stricter regulations against short-term rentals. Until then, the plight with disruptive tourists continues, reported The Thaiger.

To be fair this isn’t a new issue either. I rented a condo in Suk Soi 23/1 for 2 years back in 2012-2014 and there were a couple of condo owners doing short term tourist rentals against the rules. My condo was directly above the pool and once a month or so you’d get young tourists (90% Brits) who would be at the pool with “friends” (mostly rentals) as late at 2-3am music on etc. 

 

it is frustrating but it is on the owners breaching the condo rental rules and they are the starting point for action. In our condo they were all Thai owners.

Well as Thailand now appears to be the new club 18-30s party destination of choice, be prepared for a lot more noise, partys and drug and alchohol fueled anti-social behaviour from the new waves of quality tourists that are on the way

They should pay a visit to my condo in Pattaya. The noise makers are mostly Thais, it appears that the grannies take care of their grand kids whilst their daughters are throwing it around in Walking St or even Soi 6. Thai kids are never get taught to be accountable so when they get to their teens they are totally out of control. Then the adults come home around 3 am and start slamming doors, yelling at each other and start throwing things. If I never owned my condo I would move on. I must add that all this has been going on post Covid. The people next door got their marching orders 2 months ago but returned to the same unit last week. It's only a 21 sq meters studio but at weekends 4-5 people stay there.

Mute question since the room is called a condo and is owned by an individual.. You must mean who is renting the condos out.. The condo owner is. The building has no ability to rent out the condos inside. The owners use AirBNB to illicitly rent out their condo usually bypassing security rules and the rules of the building.

A little rich, there is no one more inconsiderate than Thais In the village drums all night for days on end speakers so loud you blasted day and night ffrom 300 yards away. No this more of a cultural thing not saying old farang is not making a noise but I feel if it was Thsis it would be tolerated. How many times on my travels I have been up all night with  off beat music and the enuberate somchai.

My neighbours complained about a foreigner piissing in the pool.When the manager said "most people piiss in the pool sometimes" .My neighbours replied "yes,but not from the seventh floor"

Hey the thais are so greedy that the ones making money don't care about anyone else and the powers that be are also hell bent on money so as long as you have these 90 visas your going to attract crap people that don't care about rules.

The condo owner obviously rents his place out,  not the building owner.

But that doesn't come into the equation because even condo owners who stay in places can be a problem with parties,  guests,  pot heads, noise etc .... 

 

so renting or not renting isn't the issue.   Building owners need to enforce strict rules on the owners to ensure a harmonious environment.

Young people coming on holiday to Thailand where drug use is legalised, drink relatively cheap and prostitutes openly available for hire…of course they want to party all hours. 
 

The fault lies with whomever is renting out the rooms, almost certainly against the condo rules. THEY are the ones the other owners should be complaining about.

 

I f you pay peanuts you get monkeys and if you rent rooms to young people on holiday and out for a wild time, you get noise at all hours.

 

just once I wish Thai people would complain about the cause, not the symptom of a problem.

What has the 90 day visa got to do with this issue? If the visa was for 30 days would it stop these people coming on holiday and acting as they do?

I think in some of these situations the Jurasic office or building managers are getting a kick back.  Way too obvious what is happening and showing complicity with security assisting people with check in.

Just so glad I never made the stupid mistake of buying a condo.

Sometimes the condo owner has a contract with the condo builder/manager allowing the latter to rent out his apartment. So the owner of the condo may not actually know to whom their apartment is being rented.

 

So the question is a valid one in some cases.

Last vacation we were in a condo in bangkok that was peaceful. When i find those types of places i just keep going back every time because i know how random things are in the country as far as accommodation

I will reiterate what I mentioned. 

 

It is the responsibility of the Condo building Admin/owner to enforce common rules to tenants/condo owners to ensure a peaceful environment.

The condos are being rented out illegally, on Airbnb and similar, the Condo admin doesn't really have much control or jurisdiction over illegal short term rentals.

This is why Airbnb was never allowed in Thailand, but of course people let out rooms anyway. It's an issue at my condo, and probably wouldn't be if the guests didn't treat the place like a hotel. The crap really hits the fan when they bother the condo reception with questions thinking that they are staying at a hotel. This isn't just Brits. The Indians often move in fifteen to a room and like to throw their weight around. This shouldn't be an issue in a country where hotel rooms are so cheap and plentiful.

Then the Building Admin needs to inform the Thai government authorities that the owner is breaking the law and he should be arrested.  

 

It's simple really,  but no one want's to take the initiative and do it..

The article says they already have informed authorities.
