A Focus On : Kanchanaburi - site of an Iconinc Railway
Located in the west of Thailand, Kanchanaburi is a destination that beckons travelers with both history and stunning natural beauty. Often overshadowed by its more famous counterparts, Kanchanaburi is a perfect escape for those looking to immerse themselves in Thailand’s rich heritage and breathtaking landscapes. This vibrant town, set against the backdrop of rolling hills and the River Kwai, offers a wealth of experiences waiting to be discovered. Getting There Kanchanaburi is conveniently located about 130 kilometers (approximately 80 miles) northwest of Bangkok. The easiest way to reach this charming town is by bus or train from the capital. Buses leave from the Southern Bus Terminal, taking around two to three hours depending on traffic, while trains depart from Thonburi Railway Station and follow a scenic route along the river, taking around three to four hours. For a bit more flexibility, you can also hire a private car or use a ride-sharing app. Where to Stay Finding accommodations that cater to various budgets and styles can enhance your Kanchanaburi experience. Here are three recommendations: 1. Felix River Kwai Resort: This eco-friendly resort offers a delightful blend of comfort and immersion in nature. With spacious rooms, a large swimming pool, and picturesque river views, it’s an ideal spot for relaxation after a day of exploration. 2. River Kwai Jungle Rafts: For a truly unique experience, consider staying on a floating raft hotel. This eco-resort combines traditional bamboo structures with stunning river views, offering an authentic Thai atmosphere complemented by the sounds of nature. 3. The Oasis Hostel: If you’re traveling on a budget, this chic hostel provides a friendly and social environment. With comfortable dormitory-style and private rooms, it’s a great base for meeting fellow travelers while keeping costs down. Things to See and Do Kanchanaburi is steeped in history, and there are several must-visit sites: The Bridge over the River Kwai: One of the region's most iconic landmarks, this bridge is part of the infamous Death Railway, built during World War II. The surrounding area features a museum that recounts the harrowing stories behind its construction. Erawan National Park: Known for its stunning seven-tiered waterfall, Erawan National Park is a paradise for nature lovers. You can hike to the top of the falls, take a dip in the turquoise pools, and enjoy the serene surroundings. Hellfire Pass: Visit this poignant memorial and museum dedicated to those who lost their lives constructing the railway. You can walk through the original cutting, which offers a moving reminder of history against a backdrop of lush forest. Getting Around While Kanchanaburi itself is small enough to explore on foot, you may want to rent a scooter or bicycle for more flexibility. There are also songthaews (shared taxis) that can take you to various attractions at a reasonable price. Keep in mind, however, that traffic can be hectic, so exercise caution. Pitfalls to Watch Out For Weather Considerations: The best time to visit Kanchanaburi is between November and February when the weather is cool and dry. Avoid the rainy season, as heavy downpours can make some attractions less accessible. Wildlife Caution: While exploring the national parks, be mindful of wildlife. Keep a safe distance from any animals you encounter, and avoid feeding them to ensure both your safety and theirs. Cultural Sensitivities: As with many places in Thailand, dress modestly when visiting temples and sacred sites. Respecting local customs will enhance your travel experience and show appreciation for the culture. Kanchanaburi presents an opportunity to delve into history while relishing the beauty of nature. With its welcoming vibe, diverse accommodations, and a range of activities, it is a destination worth exploring, promising memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you’re seeking adventure, tranquility, or a deeper understanding of Thailand's past, Kanchanaburi has something special waiting for you. -

Apple may be in trouble. Claims "Trump" is phonetically close to "Racist"
Apple says it’s fixing a technical bug that caused its voice-to-text system to briefly replace the word “racist” with the word “Trump.” Some iPhone users had reported on Tuesday that when they spoke the word “racist” using Apple’s voice dictation feature, the system automatically typed in “Trump” before quickly correcting to the word “racist.” The company on Tuesday acknowledged the glitch that it said was causing its system to incorrectly suggest the word “Trump” when users spoke words with “r” consonants, and said it was rolling out a fix. Apple fixing bug that caused dictation feature to type the word ‘Trump’ when users said ‘racist’ | CNN Business That "fix" should include the names of the employees they kicked to the curb. What's cheaper nowadays?
You ask what is cheaper in Thailand. Ok here goes: Electricity, gas, beer, vegetables, hotels, taxi fares, restaurant meals, rail fares and more. I realise that none of the above can be brought back to Aus so please accept this answer as counter to your Thai bashing post.
