Royal Galaxy Cruise has issued a public apology after a video went viral showing trash being dumped into the Chao Phraya River, sparking outrage among environmentalists and Bangkok residents. The footage, shared widely on social media, portrayed garbage being carelessly tossed into the iconic river, drawing harsh criticism.

 

The incident occurred on February 27 and was blamed on an untrained temporary employee unfamiliar with proper waste disposal procedures. Royal Galaxy Cruise expressed deep regret, reiterating their commitment to environmental sustainability.

 

In response, the company has taken corrective measures. Contracts for all involved temporary workers were terminated, and stricter cleanliness standards have been implemented. Permanent staff will continue to receive regular training on cleanliness and waste management.

 

 

“We deeply regret the incident and are committed to preserving the environment by using eco-friendly products and maintaining high cleanliness standards,” stated Royal Galaxy Cruise.

Issued an apology and sacked the staff... let off the hook

The staff were obviously instructed by someone to dump the trash in the river.

The owners of the vessel should be held fully accountable for this disgusting action, the vessel should have been banned from operating for at least a month while all staff undergo full training.

Let the loss of income come as a warning.

However this is a great example of the Thai education and mentality! Pathetic.

Makes you wonder where all the garbage in Bangkok ends up.

 

Anyway the river does look a lot cleaner nowadays compared to say 20 years ago.

 

But I have seen a fleet of ships going up and down the river that skim garbage from it.

 

Hopefully fixing their problem doesn't mean installing a roller blind so no one can see them dumping trash.

and lack of leadership.

Staff not sure what to do to dispose of the rubbish.

employee / employer relationship prevents employee from asking, so employee takes the most obvious at hand action.

Don't believe it for a second!  At the least, the captain and others on the bridge would have been aware, because there have been reports they do maneuver around to hide behind other boats to do the dumping.
