Accident Tragic End for Trailblazing Pilot in Indiana Plane Crash
Photo courtesy of VN Express Nguyen Anh Thu, a pioneering pilot who was once a young dreamer from a rural Vietnamese village, tragically lost her life in a plane crash in Indiana, USA, on July 30. The 44-year-old was on her second solo journey around the world when her aircraft went down just minutes after takeoff, according to IndyStar. Born in Tuy Hoa, Vietnam, Thu moved to the United States with her family in 1993. Despite her father's initial disapproval of her aviation aspirations, Thu’s determination saw her excel academically, focusing on mathematics to make her dreams a reality. Graduating at the top of her class, she secured a full scholarship to Purdue University to study mathematics. While at university, Thu juggled tutoring jobs, often working 20 hours to afford a single hour of flight lessons. Her commitment paid off, as she later earned a pilot’s licence and pursued advanced degrees in aerospace engineering. Her career soared as she was named Outstanding Flight Instructor in 2017 and flew Boeing 767s for a major airline, logging over 4,000 flight hours. Thu’s accomplishments didn’t stop there; in 2018, she founded the Asian Women in Aerospace and Aviation (AWAA) to inspire future generations. A landmark achievement came in 2024 when she became the first Vietnamese woman to fly solo around the world in a single-engine aircraft, visiting 25 countries. Her latest flight in July sought to replicate this historic journey, aiming to inspire Asian women in aviation. Just before her tragic final flight, Thu posted a heartfelt video from the cockpit, describing her mission to inspire future Asian female pilots. Following the accident, AWAA honoured Thu’s legacy and vowed to continue her mission through scholarships and support for young women in aviation. Thu’s story is one of resilience, determination, and inspiration, leaving a lasting impact on aviation and those aspiring to follow their dreams against all odds. Big C now cheaper than expat shops
Kudos too to Big C for now stocking Crunchy Nut Cornflakes. And while it pains me, on one level, to congratulate CP Group, they've done a belter with a new (to me) fresh milk that's on shelves in most supermarkets. It actually tastes like proper milk. Goes great with cereal and improves tea no end. -

You thought you had seen all from the dunche in chief of the US?
Yes, because the whole world has been having a go at the US since....well, forever! Very plausible, indeed!
