Picture from responders.

An incident unfolded in Phetchabun province when a wild elephant attacked a team attempting to push it back into the forest, resulting in one fatality and one serious injury.

The incident occurred at approximately 16:30 on 3 March, in Ban Huai Khoi, Sila Subdistrict, Lom Kao District. According to reports from the Phetchabun Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office (DPMO), the deceased was a member of the elephant control team from Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary.

His body remains at the scene as the elephant continues to linger in the area, preventing immediate recovery efforts. With darkness falling, teams including emergency response teams and rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation in Phetchabun, will wait until first light, to again attempt to recover the body, for their own safety.

Another individual sustained injuries and was transported to Somdet Phra Yuppharat Lom Kao Hospital by the local rescue unit under the Sila Subdistrict Administrative Organisation. Due to the remote location and difficult terrain, a local farmer’s tractor was used to transport the casualty on a stretcher. His condition is described as critical, but stable.

Authorities, have been deployed to secure the area and officials will continue efforts to push the elephant back into the forest.

This start to be really bad. Seems like an elephant kills a person almost on a daily basis now.

What used to be wildlife territory is now being taken over by people. It is very difficult now for feral animals to avoid humans.

Sad that this happened and someone lost their life, but it seems like they need more training or better equipment to do these tasks. RIP

Seems that plan back-fired

Almost daily, well I think 100 on an annual basis is not even close.
Overdoing it is also a profession
