save the frogs Posted March 5 Posted March 5 so saw two guys side by side. one guy was pale as a ghost. some people seem to master the art of staying out of the sun. the other guy was baked like a lobster, had his shirt off. some people go out of therir way to get as much sun as possible, completely oblivious to any potential risks of getting too much sun? guy's entire body was freakin' red man. what about you? where are you on the scale of pale to red? 1

The back veranda is above the wall, so a little caution needed when sitting there. The 'path' through the middle of, is too far away, so no real worries, unless I stand up and wave to them as the scoot by on the motorbike 😎 Depends how cute they are 🙄 1
hotsun Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I get skin cancer in thailand pretty easy. I choose sun deprivation as the lesser of the two evils for me 1

I'm confused. 2 men, 1 pale, another red like a lobster? Maybe the lobster was on top? 😳🥴😵💫😱 1
ChaiyaTH Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I just do it Thai style, my face and arms / legs have a good tan but I usually always keep a shirt on so it is entirely white elsewhere. The tourism and sun tan thing is weird one tho, they always go for the red lobster to then lose their tan 2-3 weeks after getting back. I never really got the purpose of it, if not maintaining it after as well. Is like going to the gym just once a month.

Stevemercer Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I try to avoid the sun and wear long trousers, shirt and hat outside. I put sunscreen on any exposed skin. I guess coming from Australia, where skin cancer is common, is behind this. I'm always surprised to see foreigners wandering around in shorts and lying in the sun. I assume they are from colder European countries where sunlight is a treat. 1
Gandtee Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Living in Thailand the urge to get a tan went many years ago. . I do get a bit browned off sometimes after reading certain publications. But a couple of beers or G and Ts I'm soon put to rights.😉 1

Like there are 50 shades of gray between black and white, there luckily is something similar between pale and red – I'm neither pale or red, I'm in one of the 50 other possible shades... 1
Bangkok Black Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I would like to wear shorts and either a vest or tank top but I get bitten by every insect so its trousers for me.
Maybole Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I am a very light skinned Celt so I always wear a shirt and and Long trousers (pants to you yanks). My Thai neighbour (who is frequently shirtless) commented that had never seen me without a shirt. One day he came in to my house just as I had taken off my shirt to put it n the washing machine and stared at me. He asked my wife if I was ill or had a skin infection because he never seen anybody so white, even a ghost.

Luuk Chaai Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Well tanned all over ! The sun is our friend . Benefits .. Increased vitamin D levels seratonin levels / enhances your ciracadian rhythem Just Imagine .. moving to a hot tropical area filled with sunshine .. just to wear long pants, long sleaved shirts with sox and sandels Duhhhhhh ! Exposing your eyes to sunlight in the morning increases daytime energy & mood etc. & improves nighttime sleep, but it also triggers a cascade of short, medium & long-acting peptides & hormones that powerfully modify state of mind & body in other (positive) ways too. *Blink as needed of course; don’t harm your retina. Science can’t satisfactorily fix broken retinas yet… 1
