The last time I went to Vietnam (2024) I paid $25 for an online e-visa, although I only went for the weekend.

Looking online it appears that UK citizens can just enter without one.

Any first-hand recent experience is very welcome.

Thanks in advance

I last went when it was 14 days, very easy, in fact I went so often they hijacked the last page of my passport to track I wasn't there the other 16 days in the month without having to read my entire passport.

None of this 'you come too often' nonsense like Thai immigration.

I went a few years ago with Thai wife and my UK passport  , both visa exempt as far as remember because of ASEAN rule they made for Thais and UK not needing visa .

Went there last year with my Philippine g.f, no problems at all, we are going back at the end of this week.

Only thing to consider is that my girlfriend, Philippine, is only allowed "21 days" which includes day of arrival and day of departure limiting us to 20 nights.

Walk and walk up to immigration give me your passport and walk through. Don't fly into ho chi Minh City whatever you do.

Thanks.... but why why not fly into HCMC?

That's exactly what I plan to do this weekend.

Nothing wrong with flying into HCMC. Yes, sometimes the lines at immigration are a bit long, but I have never waited more than 50 minutes or so, average around 20 minutes.

You do need an outbound flight reservation on visa exemption, but immigration rarely asks for it.

When I flew into there last month it takes about 2 hours to get your luggage and get through immigration and out of there. I'm not joking it takes an hour and 50 minutes to get through immigration and then you can sit and wait for a good another 45 minutes for your luggage. It makes no difference if you fly VIP class or whatever class you all go through the same thing.

And when did you go last

Last month. I am still in Vietnam. But I went overland this time. Took five minutes. I am shuttling back and forth between Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia. Sometimes I fly, sometimes I bike. This was the worst I have ever seen it (Nov2022) :

Was that somewhere during or around Tết, the Vietnamese New year?Worst time of the year to travel to Vietnam.

Like Songkran, should be avoided like the plague.

no ....   you would need a visa a few years ago.  it was not exempt then.

Just back from a trip to Vietnam.  No visa needed for me or my Thai Missus.  Queue system at the SGN airport was a bit confusing, you don't go to the e-visa, visa on arrival area, you just join the (long) queue for passport control.

No need for any hotel details etc, just your passport.

And the nightlife in District 1 is great - new, stylish bars and restaurants, and about half the cost as Bangkok.

I never applied for a visa and went for a week with my wife arriving in da nang.
