I'd rather know the inverse, how many kilometers on average do you need to bike before seeing one death?

I'm out nearly every day and survived thus far for many years. It's bad but not that bad. Some roads should be avoided though so if you're riding on the dangerous ones every day then your chances go way down.

Its basic maths... 

 

Expected distance = 1,000,000,000 km

                                                X

Where X = Fatalities per Billion.

                               

Thus: from a Statistical perspective below is the expected distance before a fatality for each transport mode.

Motorcyclists: 13.5 million km

Pedestrians: 62.5 million km

Cyclists: 62.5 million km

Car occupants (1-2 fatalities per billion km): 500 million to 1 billion KM 

Bus or coach occupants: 500 million km

I am in bagkrachao several time per week, but i only return via klong toei. i head out there on Rama 3/Ratuburana. it is a good 40km loop, and easy to double it once you are on the "island."

I used to cycle there regularly. My favorite place in the suburbs followed by Samut Prakan.

| I do an 80km loop at least once a month that takes me from Lower Sukhumvit out rama 3 and rama 2 to Bankhuntianchaitalay (yes its a thing). It hits three provinces. Bangkok proper, samut sakorn and samut prakan ending up in Bankrachao.

I've done a similar loop a couple of times. Loved it. Now I live upcountry, I do more hilly rides. Doing a 54 km loop tomorrow (weather permitting, i.e. not too hot).

Come up to Samoeng. Nary a flat road to be found. You can't make it far before hitting 10%.

 

Last night. The smoke hasn't hit bad yet but surely it's only a matter of time before the forest fires start.
