A four-year-old boy suffered severe internal injuries after accidentally drinking acid stored in a soft drink bottle at a rubber plantation worker’s home in Chaiyaphum.

His mother has issued a warning to other parents, as the boy was released from hospital on 10 March.

The child, identified as Theerapat, was playing at a friend’s house with his mother, Mrs. Laddawan, 32, when the incident occurred. While the adults were chatting, the boy unknowingly picked up the bottle, which contained a rubber-tapping acid, and took a sip. He immediately began vomiting violently and crying in pain.

His mother rushed him to Chaiyaphum Hospital, where doctors found severe acid burns in his mouth, throat, and stomach. Due to extensive tissue damage, surgeons were forced to remove parts of his stomach and intestines.

Fortunately, after intensive treatment, Theerapat has since started to recover and has been discharged from hospital to continue his recovery at home.

His mother urging other parents to closely supervise young children to prevent similar incidents. She also called on rubber plantation workers to store hazardous chemicals safely and avoid using soft drink bottles as containers to prevent further tragedies.
