They will not because they are afraid of primary opposition.

I offer that it will take some drastic results at the midterm elections to initiate some change.

The democrats need only gain 3 seats in the House to make it a new ball game.

2 years of action first.

Not quite sure how you take a situation created by ridiculously stupid actions and "policy" of Trump and turn that into blaming someone from the left. Only in your delusional world of stupid would that be the case

Claiming the entire system is going to melt down is delusional.   Go drink some bleach.

Why is that? Do you know anything about the gentleman or why  he is the former commissioner.

He was appointed to complete the term of a  previous commissioner who had resigned. His term was for a specific period of time and he took the position for only that time which expired at the end of January 2025.

How is he a lefty? Do you know anything about him?

No of course you do not.

It does not surprise me when ignorant people who are clueless spit out ignorant labels for anyone who scares them.

The former commissioner of Social Security is the very well regarded former Governor of the state of Maryland.  He is the  man who cut crime by 36%+ when he was mayor of Baltimore and was accused of being too conservative.

He was approved  for his position by the United States Senate with only 11 Senators voting against. He did have Republican backing.

You are the ignorant person in this conversation.   I'll bet you 1000 dollars the system does not melt down. Clown.

It is not deluded to question the claim of unrest or of  likelihood and impact of protest.

Have you considered  the demographics of the beneficiaries?  Obviously you have not.

68.456 million beneficiaries of which, 60 million are old age and survivor beneficiaries. More than half of these people are aged 70-84.   And more than half are female. Please tell me when the last time  that demographic engaged in social unrest? It is very unlikely that the 6 million+ beneficiaries over the age of 84 are going to engage in any form of unrest.

The remaining 8 million beneficiaries are disabled and their dependents.  Please tell me when disabled people have engaged in civil unrest?

The conclusion a  rational person  draws is that the Trump administration can walk all over them because  of their marginalized position. Approximately, 90% of beneficiaries rely on social security as their principal income which makes them even more vulnerable to being pushed around.

They will call their members of Congress.  Do you know how things work in the USA?

I wonder what percentage of the magas actually believe the still repeated already totally debunked BIG LIES from both Trump and Musk that there are many millions of people over 100 and much older getting benefits.

Why do they keep repeating that lie?

Trump I can believe is stupid enough to believe it. Is Musk also that stupid?

It certainly doesn't inspire confidence that Musk and his big balls boys are in charge of SS now. It's appalling actually.

I'll bet you still believe Russia's collusion is a thing.

I don't believe any news story. Just look at end results.

The former SS head who is very credible as a former two time state governor is only saying based on his insider knowledge of that agency, he sees a real risk that payments could be interrupted because of the Musk chainsaw. He's not saying it will definitely happen. He's speaking as a public service to suggest to recipients that have the ability to keep a cash reserve in case it happens.

I posted this mainly as an American expat in Thailand issue around people using the import 65K a month method. Many such people get their SS benefit sent directly to their Thai bank account.

I am really asking, believe it or not, IF there is a month or more that is interrupted (but repaid later) would that ruin extension applications or not? As the requirement is a MONTHLY thing.

My current understanding is that there is zero tolerance for missing even one month. I do know there is tolerance for odd specific dates of funds arrival.

For example a month where the benefit comes in two times at the end of a month where the second remittance is actually the next month's funding. That's OK with immigration. But completely missing months? I don't think that's OK.

MAGA supporters won't worry. The  small number of US citizens who are at risk in Thailand are  a small cost to suffer during the great leap forward.

Doubtful. The SS beneficiaries are mostly vulnerable people. How is some morbidly obese  woman in a wheelchair going to protest? How about the elderly man confined to a nursing home bed? The elderly are the least likely to engage in overt protest for fear of retribution or physical harm.  Sure, they will complain and  AARP will shake its fist, but  if the delay is  short,  it will be quickly forgotten.

Perhaps you have not noticed that many activists are not necessarily those who have been directly affected by similar issues.  Social media has been very effective in stirring up violence.

You can make SAVINGS from social security payments???? Oviously they are way too high then.

No, not all recipients depend only on social security to survive.  But all who've paid into the system are entitled to receive benefits in accordance with the law no matter what their present income or savings are.

I'm not sure what your point is, but many people can certainly save some or all of their Social Security benefits,  not necessarily because they are "too high," but because they have other sources of income.  I didn't need any of my Social Security benefits before the recent changes made under The Social Security Fairness Act, and I certainly won't need any portion of the increased monthly payments I'll receive under that Act. Every penny goes into an investment of some kind. And, if I've played my cards right, I'll never need any of that money for the rest of my life.

I'm well aware that many people need every single penny of their monthly benefits.  They are elderly and it's their only source of income.  There's no way they won't be in a world of hurt going forward.

I think Trump knows this too, as he's pushing for the current continuing resolution to allow the government to continue operating for another year, during which time he can continue to operate without a threat of government shutdown. He knows that will be very much unpopular, once reality hits what's left of the "middle class" voters.  It's not going to be pretty. Anyway, it's a hard jb, but there may be no other choice. Stop the waste fraud and abuse or we no longer have America.

Will all this roil the bond market? Possible. Will the Fed continue to buy it all, despite the dollar's melt down? They've said as much.

No one knows how this will all turn out, but at least Trump will try to do the right thing, I think.

Notice it's the "Ex" head of Social Security.  They're now an Ex Head for good reason.

The current acting head (a Trump appointee) is apparently saying more or less the same thing.

Social Security’s acting chief privately admits DOGE ‘will make mistakes’ while cuts delay processing of claims, report says

No one protests on behalf of the elderly or the disabled. They don't make for sexy photo ops.

150+ year old people getting benefits.  So corrupt they should shut it down and arrest all the people committing fraud.

So you actually bought that big lie?

I guess that's a litmus test for maga a'ong with believing Trump won in 20 and Jan 6 was a tourist excursion.
