A drug-intoxicated man broke into the home of a hospital worker in the early hours of the morning of 20 March, brutally attacking and killing her before injuring her two children as they attempted to defend their mother.

Police from Nong Hin Station were alerted to the incident at 04:30 in Moo 5, Tat Kha, Nong Hin district. Officers, along with medical personnel and rescue teams, rushed to the scene, where they discovered the victim, Ms Natcha Netthip, 53, a hospital worker at Nong Hin Hospital, lying in a pool of blood at the back door of her home. She had suffered fatal machete wounds to the head, right arm, and torso.

Inside the house, police found extensive bloodstains and two injured individuals: Mr Phakphon Kakong, 25, the victim’s son, who had sustained a deep head wound, and Ms Kulthida Netthip, 16, who had nearly lost her left hand to the attacker’s blade. Both were rushed to Nong Hin Hospital for emergency treatment.

The suspect, identified as Mr Ratchanon Unkaew, 22, a friend of Mr Phakphon, fled to his home roughly 500 metres from the crime scene. Police later found him lying in bed, his clothes stained with blood. Upon questioning, he admitted to the attack, stating that he had used a machete he found inside the victim’s house.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had been riding his black Honda Wave motorcycle, a gift from his father, when he arrived at the victim’s home. He climbed through a side window and entered Ms Natcha’s bedroom, where she is believed to have woke to find him. A violent struggle ensued, during which he repeatedly struck her with the machete. She managed to escape the bedroom but collapsed and died near the back door.

Hearing the commotion, her two children rushed to help but were also attacked. The suspect then calmly rode home as if nothing had happened.

Local authorities tracked him down after the village chief broadcast an announcement, urging the suspect’s father to report him. Upon investigation, the father discovered his son in his bloodstained clothes and immediately alerted the police.

Mr Ratchanon was known to authorities, having a history of drug abuse and theft. Three years prior, he had stabbed a vendor at the municipal market in Nong Hin while she was in a restroom. He served nine months in prison but was released, only to reoffend.

His father revealed that the suspect had been using methamphetamine and cannabis since the age of 15. Despite multiple attempts at rehabilitation, he continued his violent behaviour. Authorities have now taken him into custody for further legal proceedings.

Don't frickin do drugs. Just don't. Don't even. Personal sanity, well being, and legal innocence are some of the surest things to be lost. The well being and even lives of others can sometimes also follow, as in this case. And if you do know of anyone who is on both weed and meth, be proactive. They aren't sane enough to take the necessary steps to stop themselves; make sure that those who can stop them, do. This young man will spend decades if not the rest of his life behind bars because of drug abuse which robbed him of his sanity and left a crazy person in his place to ruin his life, take the life of another, and deeply harm the lives of three others.

My condolences. Hope the injured recover soon. I hope the attacker gets life in prison.

Just inject him with battery acid, it's a cheap alternative to feeding lowlifes

Agree with the meth and what it does, but not fair to include weed, as it mostly has people act calm with it's use. Never have I seen anyone who was a weed user act this way or with any abuse whatsoever. Some people should never use drugs or alcohol as it can make them do things they wouldn't ordinarily do, but this case is different. This is a known criminal that has a record of using a knife before, and if there was ever a reason for the death penalty, this is one. This is a psychopath that needs to be removed from society permanently. The kids lost a mom and were also attacked. Pre meditated were his actions to likely rape, and saying he found a machete there will soon be proven yes or no. People who use weed are not insane, nor are all users of other drugs. That's a personal thing. Some are mentally unstable before drug use. The drugs might have them go over the edge but they are already unstable in mind.

Maybe the next judge or judicial system will take this case a tad more seriously.

20 years with no parole would be a good start

I know, but putting weed in there means little, as it doesn't do the damage that meth does with even one use, and speed makes people a lot more aggressive instead of calm. Drug abuse does ruin lives but it isn't a direct cause of this type of behavior. This comes from a total lack of respect for life and women. The drugs he took didn't make him do what he did. His thinking was already off kilter as his record shows. People blame drug use when mental illness is the main contributor to deviant behavior, especially of this violence.

I hope the first judge who gave him 9 months for attempted murder is reminded daily of this death. If he’s still a judge I’d definitely want to see how many innocent people he has let down with this wacky light approach system. If he would have sentenced him properly(more than 3 years) for attempted murder, he would be in a jailhouse and this would not have happened.
