So giving a refund was enough to end the incident yet, leaves their doors open for the next sucker to be scammed by them. Pitiful police action. They should have closed their doors and removed their license to sell products so the next time they open they will be arrested. Also, the old mans claims about being approached and conned by 2 foreigners with a Thai person should have been addressed to see if they carried work permits to do this work.

Life is a learning process, but at that age you should have had a few lessons, not falling for cheap tricks in a rip off environment

Fool.

A 20,000 baht fool! If a stranger told me I was overweight, I would immediately walk away after saying something like "And you're ugly!" Besides, the guy doesn't look particularly overweight to me?

"When his partner joined him, they realised the product did not deliver the promised benefits" Did they expect the weight to drop off  "like water off a duck's back"?

Unbelievably naive!

In my opinion, if anyone approaches you in Pattaya for whatever reason, especially a transgender, don't trust the person and go away. Pattaya is that kind of place.

What are you trying to communicate here?

So... you choose to go to Pattaya, then run away from anyone who approaches you for whatever reason... especially if they are transgender?...

You are a mess dude.

Usual no action from the BIB.

250,000 active (well sort of) officers. Plus tourist police (you don't see them these days).

You don't see them at night unless they are out looking for tea money.

Tucked up in bed.

Get them out walking around and possibly creating a visual deterrent.

Give then all infringement notice pads and do thier jobs.

Its getting worse.

This guy should never have left the UK. Naive beyond belief.

Perhaps it was the Evian water he drinks!?

Surviving and thriving in this world in this day and age requires a great deal of discrimination, good judgment and the ability to just say no to strangers. You never, ever fall for something offered to you by a stranger, most are up to no good. Why would somebody walking down the street spend 20,000 baht on a product that a stranger is offering them? What was this guy thinking, why is he so reckless, and where are his survival instincts?

There is a whole subculture in this world, who absolutely refuse to work for a living, and instead like to prey on those who are vulnerable, naive, dumb, and easy victims. It is our responsibility to be careful, prudent, willing to do some vetting, some research, some due diligence, anytime we part with cash. Dumb and dumber.

The other thing that comes to mind is if you were subject to a scam like this why would you want the whole nation to know about it? Why would you report it, what do you think the police are going to do help you recover your funds? I would just suck it up and move on.

Who says he wasn't. There could have been a lot of different toxins/carcinogens in that concoction, which won't kill you right away, but some time down the road.

What pinnacle of civilization are you from to make such an enlightened comment?

Let me guess... 😂

I think you have as many braincells left as your namesake.

What license and police probably clipped the refund ticket

Hey, we weren't stupid enough to elect a serial orange liar as a president.

Back to this idiot. It's one thing to get scammed so easily and foolishly, it's another thing to go to the media and stand there like a lemon pointing at the 200 baht item he paid 20,000 baht for.

He's screaming, look how stupid I am!

I was approached by 3 Indian men outside Palladium Night Market in January trying the same scam, didn't buy into their claims though.

This is hilarious, a 'bump' like this is so obviously a scam only a complete fool would fall for it.

If you're a bit dim then remember this : Don't talk to anyone who does a 'cold approach' when you're out and about, if you don't know then already then they are almost certainly up to no good.

I don't think we are all like that..... this scam was mostly perpetuated on people from the sub-continent in previous incidents. Personally I am likely to be a bit rude to someone coming up to me and telling me I am too fat!

A British tourist has fallen victim to a high-priced herbal remedy scam in Pattaya. On 19 March 2025, Mark Campbell, 63, reported the incident to the local police. He recounted how, while walking near a shopping centre towards South Pattaya, he was approached by two unidentified foreign men and a Thai woman at a night bazaar. They engaged him in conversation, claiming he was overweight and recommended a weight-loss remedy.

The group persuaded Mr Campbell to buy two bottles of honey from a convenience store, then guided him to an unknown shop in Soi 13/2.

There, they extolled the virtues of a health supplement allegedly containing mysterious herbs purported to aid in weight loss. Trusting their claims, Mr Campbell purchased the product for 20,000 baht and was subsequently led to withdraw cash to complete the transaction.

Suspicious, Mr Campbell later contacted his partner and expressed doubts about the purchase. When his partner joined him, they realised the product did not deliver the promised benefits and was unreasonably priced. Convinced they'd been duped, they returned to file a police complaint.

Police investigators went with the victim to the scene, finding the shop closed. Upon contacting neighbouring vendors, they managed to reach the shop owner, who arrived with the foreign group. After discussions, the parties reached an agreement, and Mr Campbell was refunded, peacefully resolving the incident, reported We love Pattaya Faccebook.
