Mystery Surrounds Murder of Unknown Man Found in Krabi Forest
UPDATE Former Village Assistant Arrested for Fatal Shooting in Krabi Picture courtesy of CH7 In Krabi province, police have arrested a former village assistant headman for the fatal shooting of a man suspected of stealing rubber scraps. The body of the victim, later identified as Mr. Suriya, also known as “Chaeng,” aged 35, was discovered on the Southern Seaboard Road in Moo 3, Ao Luek Nuea subdistrict, Ao Luek district. The condition of the corpse suggested he had been dead for at least five to six days. Investigators found ten spent 9mm bullet casings at the scene, as well as a makeshift shelter about 20 metres away. Relatives of the victim had previously reported him missing to police in Plai Phraya district. Following an intensive investigation, officers arrested Mr. Preecha, a former assistant village headman, at a petrol station in Ao Luek. A 9mm handgun was seized during the arrest. The suspect confessed to the killing, claiming he had suffered repeated thefts of rubber scraps from his plantation, each time losing approximately one sack of material. On the night of 13 March, he allegedly set up a stakeout and spotted the victim arriving on a motorcycle to steal from the plantation. Mr. Preecha stated that he shouted for the victim to stop and fired warning shots. When the victim fled, he continued firing until he later discovered the man had died. He then fled the scene before being apprehended by police. Authorities have charged the suspect with murder and illegal possession of a firearm as investigations continue. -- 2025-03-27
