What makes people choose to live in bad air?

For people who have a choice, why?

I returned to Canada 10 days ago. I don't like Canada very much, but I also don't like pollution.  In Toronto AQI is constantly in the low to mid 20's. Clear skies. My wife is impressed. I also like my free healthcare. I do have a choice and choose what is best for me at this point in time.

 

I really have a laff at delusional old farts who lick Thai boots, quick to file their income tax then line up for their 90 day report like good prisoners that they are while pretending everything is great in just because they pass by Nana and think they are Rod Stewart.

It has always been like this and it's nothing new and nothing different from 30 years ago. UK is much worse, yet GoFundMe beggars beg to be returned to that awful NHS for treatment as soon as they have a medical problem in Thailand.

 

Emergency care in Canada is top notch tho. They will not wait for deposit of negotiate with insurance company before you get a treatment.

 

Your post is ironic and will surely attract the usual Thai bootlickers I mentioned.

No expat is licking any Thai boots here besides those who act like Brown Nosers, thinking that will bring them favor. Why are you bothering being in a Thai forum if you live back in Canada? To gloat for some reason? Some of us are going to leave Thailand soon enough, and would not return to the forum as it doesn't concern them  Some will stay because they like it here and are satisfied with the country. Every country has it's share of problems, some more than others, and to each their own. Canada is a beautiful place I'd like to return to for hunting and fishing, but being cold half the year isn't fun. Now that you're back, you have a chance to be an old fart in Canada on one of their forums, so you can relate. We are all just prisoners here of our own device.

Monday to Friday I leave when it is dark, I return home when it is dark.

Typically the Saturday afternoons spent by my pool are pleasant as too are sunday's.

Oh yes.

All these traps that can get someone prisoner of one thing or other... Typically fueled by fear.

Geography is a main prison.

Health concerns is another...

And I heard some other types of rationalization to support staying still.

But this 'boot licking', "Rod Stewart syndrome", are certainly new ones.

Imagine asking this question while like 50% of the global population struggles to even have a normal life, lives in air pollution by default, just as we all did for a very long time in western countries ourselves.

I prefer warm weather with occasional bad air quality to cold, wet and windy weather with clean air.

I take a peek out of an upstairs window and have a look to see whether I can see the peaks of the Phu Pha Yon hills, 15kms away. If I can see them, the air is good. If I can't the air is not so good. 90% of the time, the air is good so that suits me just fine.

 

PS. I still have memories of London's winter smog when I was a kid, when one had to careful not to bump into a lamp post when walking down the street. Thailand, not even Bangkok can bear comparison with that!

my brother loved to sun bathing a lot, we told him that couldn't be healthy ... it didn't concern him.

 

he got an aggressive skin cancer and dead with 50 ...

Occasional? We have high Air Pollution here in Prachuap since the Raining Season stopped end of November. So I can understand that someone moves away from this nightmare.

In CM the air has only been bad for 2 weeks, in another 3 weeks it'll be back to normal.

I'm still out cycling every day, which I couldn't do in the UK no matter how clean the air was.

 

Concentrate on the good stuff in your life, and stop obsessing the things you can't change, you'll be much happier!

Because western countries care and made the choice of quality of life. Others didnt. We have free will.

It's tolerable where I live, almost, as past few days have kept us indoors more than usual.  If I had to live further north, and tolerate the bad air for 4-6 months, then I probably wouldn't live in TH.

Doesn't say much about the air quality. Check the hospitals in CM for additional seasonal respiratory problems.

Also, last year the poor air quality lasted until May.

Pratchuap is not far enough to the South. Samui got always better readings.
