Woman Crashes Car into Bakery After Gear Mishap, Narrowly Avoids Hitting Mother & Child

A shocking moment was captured on CCTV when a 64-year-old woman accidentally put her car in the wrong gear, causing it to crash through the glass front of a bakery, narrowly missing a cashier and her young son. The incident, which took place at Bakerlicious, a bakery located opposite the Royal Thai Naval Academy on Sukhumvit Road, has left staff shaken. The bakery’s security cameras recorded the terrifying event, which occurred at 08:39 on 24 March. The footage was later shared on the bakery’s social media to raise awareness about road safety. By the time reporters arrived at the scene on 25 March, the shattered glass had been replaced, though some debris and damaged items remained. The cashier involved in the incident and her child were still visibly distressed. Jan, aged 28, the owner of Bakerlicious, explained that the incident happened in the morning while staff were preparing for the day’s business. The cashier’s son was at the shop due to school holidays. The driver, a food vendor operating nearby, had parked her grey Honda City in front of the bakery as part of her routine to unload goods for the morning market. However, instead of shifting into reverse, she mistakenly engaged drive and, upon pressing the accelerator, the car lurched forward, smashing through the shopfront. The vehicle stopped just inches from the cashier and her child, who were standing behind the counter. Following the crash, the driver emerged unharmed but visibly shaken. She admitted to police that she had intended to reverse but accidentally accelerated forward instead. The driver has agreed to cover the damages, and her insurance company has been informed. However, as the claims process is expected to take time, the bakery owner has paid 18,000 baht upfront to repair the glass and resume business operations to avoid further financial losses. Despite no injuries, the incident has left staff traumatised. The bakery owner hopes the viral CCTV footage will serve as a cautionary tale for motorists, especially as Thailand approaches the Songkran holiday period, when road accidents tend to increase. -- 2025-03-26 -

Authorities Seize Over 15,000 Packs of Smuggled Cigarettes in Sa Kaeo

Police from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) have seized more than 15,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes, hidden by the roadside in Sai Thong Subdistrict, Khlong Hat District, Sa Kaeo. The estimated tax value of the confiscated goods exceeds six million baht. On 25 March, law enforcement officials, under the direction of Pol. Lt. Gen. Jiraphop Phuridet, Commander of the CIB, instructed officers from the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECSD) to investigate the case. Leading the operation were Pol. Maj. Gen. Thatphoom Charuprat, Commander of the ECSD, along with senior officers including Pol. Col. Wichak Tharom, Pol. Col. Chakkrit Seributr, and Pol. Col. Wiwat Chitsophakun. The seized contraband included: • 10,000 packs of CRAVEN Classic cigarettes • 4,500 packs of No. 555 Gold cigarettes • 500 packs of L&M Green cigarettes Authorities discovered the cigarettes hidden in large cardboard boxes along a rural road in Sai Thong Subdistrict, approximately 3–5 kilometres from the main highway. The area is primarily agricultural, with cassava and sugarcane plantations. The operation was launched following a tip-off from an informant who reported that illegal cigarettes would be smuggled into the area between 23:00 and 01:00 AM on 23 March. Officers set up surveillance but found no individuals attempting to collect the goods. As a result, they seized the cigarettes and transported them to the ECSD for further investigation. The suspects involved are likely to face multiple charges, including: 1. Possessing and distributing illegally imported goods that have not passed through customs procedures, under the Customs Act. 2. Possessing or selling untaxed goods, under the Excise Tax Act. Authorities have vowed to continue their efforts to prevent the smuggling of contraband goods across Thailand’s borders, emphasising the importance of cracking down on illegal trade that undermines national revenue and public health regulations. Further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the smuggling operation. -- 2025-03-26 -

Damaged UK Passport
Someone reported a week ago that when you go to VFS they give you back the passport with the corner snipped while they process, you're saying that didn't happen and you keep your passport and take it back to VFS when you collect the passport for it to be snipped?
