Although this site is very anti-CCP this is a pretty good assessment of what happened. Well worth a look IMHO.

Very good report, but it would also be interesting to learn more about the Thai construction company involved, Italian-Thai Development Pcl, which was also involved in the Rama II incident just two we

  • Railways are horizontal, not vertical.

  • Ital-Thai are in bed with a chinese rail company on those builds.

Maybe they can build railways ,but crap at building high rise .

I got through half of the video and did my own research and found  possible answers!.

Govt had threatened to cancel construction contract…

Industry ministry’s initial discovery of substandard steel.

Safe to say ,These companies , ITD PCL AND CHINA RAILWAY #10 (Thailand)will never get another contract .

Whats wrong with being very anti CCP, good film, not substandard steel as such, but steel that should not have been used in a high rise as too weak and unstable, manslaughter.

Situation normal.

Architect designer prescribes 15mm steel. The winning contractor prices 12mm steel to win the contract. The construction boss orders 10mm steel in order to pocket a few pennies. The steel supplier provides 8mm steel to make a few pennies more. The construction crew use 50% of the steel and flogs the rest.

Bridges fall down and buildings topple. :coffee1:

25mm rebar is the smallest to be used in a high rise building... the architect needs to be shot !

The bigger issue is the tensile strength. High rises should be using grade 75 at minimum.

Steel supplier was a Chinese company.

Just have a look at how many government buildings have been built by this company.

Not only that but office chairs for 100 000 baht ,couches the same price and a lot more.

Corruption all around?

I hear a lot of the Chinese people involved already did a runner.

Is anyone in the government taking responsibility?

This video addresses not only questionable design flaws and substandard material, but also the motives, besides money, for corruption.  Good read.

Responsibility?  The buck passing has started and is gaining momentum.  Interesting times ahead.  Let's hope the media keeps up the investigative reporting.

All these incidents go back to the same Chinese steel company and the Thai regulators seem to have a surprising amount of patience with it …

A secret Contract for the Renewal of the Rails in Sarajevo with a Chinese Company which has a problematic Past

In June 2021, the Government of CS awarded a contract worth 20.4 million euros to a consortium of Chinese companies – “China Shandong International Economic and Technical Cooperation Group” (Shandong) and “China Railway No.10 Engineering Group Co.” (CREC 10).

Namely, the last company is a member of the “China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC)” family. BIRN BiH can now confirm that this Chinese corporation is linked to a series of accidents that resulted in injuries or deaths to workers.

Peru Freezes Contracts with Chinese Companies:

All the Chinese companies eventually end up being sister [companies] or subsidiaries and have different corporate names. For this project a first bidder was CTCEG, but its parent company Railway No. 10 Construction also participated as a bidder. It did not win, it came in fourth place,” Pérez de Cuéllar told news site Perú 21. “There would be a kind of agreement or in some way a cartel, because they submit bids with different corporate names, but in the end they all end up responding to a parent company, which is the same thing.”

good to hear min dia required was used.

I wonder what grade it is ?

I do not think that anyone who lives in Thailand, and has been involved in construction or buying a new property, is surprised to find that the likely result of the collapse was substandard materials/cost cutting.

Cost cutting !! dont you mean coruption !!  they were contracted to build the tower with specified materials they did not, that is fraud/coruption  not cost cutting

In normal business transactions cost cutting is okayed by the customer and the savings passed on to the customer. This is usually done by mutual  modification of the specifications. Corruption is when substandard material is used or in some cases completely omitted. This is done without the permission of the customer with the vendor pocketing the difference.  I know this is an overly simplified explanation, but this is the basic difference between cost cutting and corruption.

Cost cutting can also be used in the context of fraud/corruption where financial gains of said cost cutting goes into people's pockets. Used in a sentence: The contractors/builders engaged in cost cutting specifically for personal financial gain.

This is a big can of worms !!  big embarrassment to china !!

So the construction company was Chinese. The steel company was Chinese based in Thailand.

When people gonna realize that nothing good comes from the Chinese.

Next, my posts will be removed again because I am overly negative on China.
