Zelenskyy is  reflecting public sentiment. He is not keeping the war going for a thrill. Ukrainians are proud people and do not wish to be subjected to Russian brutality and expansionism.

I'm sure that's true, but at this point what the Ukrainian people "wish" is beside the point.  They just lost a war.
