Central Investigation Bureau Nabs Suspect Wanted for Over a Decade in Fatal Shooting Case
Picture courtesy of CIB Officers from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) have arrested a man wanted for over 10 years in connection with a fatal shooting incident dating back to 2009. The arrest was carried out by the Special Operations Division (SOD) of the CIB on a road in Soi 13, Tha It Sub-district, Mueang Uttaradit District. The suspect, identified only as Mr Athikom, was wanted on charges of murder in collaboration with others and violations of the Firearms Act. The incident occurred in 2009, when Mr Athikom, accompanied by his wife and daughter, encountered two youths with whom he had a previous conflict. The youths allegedly threw objects at his vehicle and fired a gun in a threatening manner. Later, Mr Athikom was informed that the same group had returned and fired shots at a local internet café in Uttaradit. In response, Mr Athikom and his associates, including two men referred to only as Mr X and Mr Ek, drove to the scene. Upon arrival, Mr X reportedly ran to the front of the shop and fired a single round. The group then fled the scene in their vehicle. The bullet struck a female member of the rival group, who later died from her injuries. After years on the run, authorities traced Mr Athikom to Tha It Sub-district in Uttaradit, where he was arrested and handed over to investigators to face prosecution. The arrest operation was conducted under the direction of Police Lieutenant General Jiraphop Phuridech, Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau; Police Major General Teerachat Teerachatthamrong, Commander of the Special Operations Division; and Police Colonel Siwawong Damrongsatsiri, Superintendent of Subdivision 3, SOD. The arresting team was led by Acting Police Lieutenant Colonel Chanaphat Siriphong, Inspector of Subdivision 3, SOD, along with other officers from the same unit. -- 2025-04-13 -

Mother-in-Law Killed as Driver Falls Asleep at the Wheel; Baby Survives in Car Seat

A road crash occurred on the morning of 12 April, on Highway 24 in Buriram province when a 27-year-old man, driving his family back to Sisaket, reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle then veered off the road and overturned in the central reservation, resulting in the death of his mother-in-law. Remarkably, his six-month-old baby, securely fastened in a car seat, survived without injury. The crash took place at approximately 07:20, on the inbound lane between Prakhon Chai and Nang Rong districts. Lieutenant Wasan Sae-Tang, deputy investigator at Prakhon Chai Police Station, responded to the scene, along with rescue units from Baan Song Muang, Sawang Chanya Dhamma Foundation (Prakhon Chai unit), and Ruam Katanyu Foundation. Emergency responders discovered a white Mazda 2 overturned in the central reservation of the four-lane highway. Household belongings were scattered around the crash site. Inside the wreckage, a woman identified as Mrs. Kanokorn, 53, from Prang Ku district, Sisaket province, was found unresponsive. Despite efforts by rescue workers to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Also in the vehicle were Mr. “Oo” 27-year-old the driver, and his wife, Ms. “Yui” aged 25. Both were wearing seatbelts and escaped without injury. Their six-month-old son, was found safely secured in a rear-facing car seat and was unharmed, not even showing signs of any scratches. According to the driver’s account, the family was en route to the mother-in-law’s home in Sisaket when he momentarily dozed off, causing the vehicle to swerve off the road and overturn. Initial police investigations indicate that all passengers, except for the deceased, were wearing proper restraints. It is believed that the lack of a seatbelt contributed to the fatal outcome, as the impact forcefully threw the victim around the inside of the vehicle. -- 2025-04-13 -

Mystery Woman’s Body Found Floating in Nan River
Picture from responders. Police in Phichit province are appealing for the public’s help in identifying the body of a woman found floating in the Nan River. The discovery was made on the afternoon of 12 April in the Ban Wang Crot area of Muang district. Rescue workers from Sanphet Phichit Foundation recovered the partially decomposed body near Moo 1, Ban Wang Crot, Ban Bung subdistrict. The deceased is believed to be a woman aged around 50. She was wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts, and a beaded Buddhist prayer necklace with an amulet encased in a plastic frame. A shoulder bag containing 520 baht in cash was also found with her. There were no visible signs of injury or foul play, and doctors estimate the woman had been dead for at least three days. Her body was transported to Phutthachinarat Hospital for a full post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Pol Col Lakh Rattanathawon, superintendent of Muang Phichit Police Station, confirmed that no missing persons reports matching the woman’s description had been received in the immediate area or neighbouring districts. It is suspected the body may have drifted downstream from further north, possibly from Phitsanulok or Uttaradit provinces. Police are now coordinating with other provincial police stations to issue a public appeal in an attempt to identify the woman and locate her family. -- 2025-04-13 -
