Military Truck Overturns After Tyre Blowout in Buriram, Eight Soldiers Injured
Picture from responders. A military six-wheeled truck overturned on Highway 24 in Prakhon Chai District, Buriram, after suffering a tyre blowout, leaving eight soldiers injured. Emergency services rushed to the scene to provide medical assistance and transport the injured to hospital. At approximately 13:00 on 3 April, officers from Prakhon Chai Police Station received a report of a military transport truck crash on the Chok Chai–Det Udom Highway near Krua Somnuek Restaurant. The truck, which was carrying military personnel, lost control and overturned into the central road ditch. Emergency responders from local rescue units provided first aid at the scene before urgently transporting the eight injured soldiers to Prakhon Chai Hospital for further medical evaluation. According to initial reports, the truck was en route to Prakhon Chai District when one of its tyres suddenly exploded. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which then veered off the road and overturned. Soldiers on board sustained various injuries, though their exact condition is yet to be confirmed by medical personnel. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the crash, including whether the vehicle had any mechanical issues or if external factors contributed to the crash. The identity of the military unit involved has not been disclosed. -- 2025-04-04 -

Rescue Teams Make Breakthrough in Bangkok Building Collapse
Picture courtesy of Siam Rath Rescue teams have successfully created an opening in the rubble of the collapsed Auditor General's Office in Bangkok, intensifying efforts to find survivors. This follows the unexpected collapse of the city-centre building, which left several individuals trapped underneath. On 3rd April 2025, rescue workers and volunteers detected signs of life and heard cries for help from beneath the debris. In response, a coordinated effort involving rescue units, volunteers, and heavy machinery aimed to breach into the suspected survival zones under the concrete wreckage, managing to lift three large slabs so far. Rescue operations also employed search and rescue dogs (K9 units) to boost the chances of locating any survivors still trapped in the ruins. All efforts are being urgently conducted to reach and safely rescue any remaining individuals as quickly as possible. As of 5:30 PM, a team using a backhoe has successfully opened a large cavity in Zone D of the site. It is currently being assessed for survivors. Based on a story by Siam Rath -- 2025-04-04 -

Elderly Couple Escapes House Fire in Nonthaburi
Picture from responders. A 73-year-old woman heroically saved her 81-year-old wheelchair-bound husband as a fire engulfed their two-storey townhouse in Sai Ma, Mueang District, Nonthaburi. Firefighters battled the blaze for over an hour before bringing it under control. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. At around 09:50 on 3 April, police at Bang Sri Muang Police Station received a report of a house fire in a residential estate. Six fire engines from Sai Ma Municipality were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames rapidly spreading through the upper floor of the house. The elderly homeowner, who had been sitting downstairs, was unaware of the fire until neighbours shouted warnings. Despite the danger, she remained calm and composed, recalling fire safety training she had previously attended. She rushed upstairs, attempting to douse the flames with a wet towel, but the fire had already spread too quickly. Realising the situation was beyond her control, she immediately turned her attention to rescuing her husband, who was unable to evacuate on his own. The 81-year-old homeowner, who was seated in his wheelchair downstairs, recounted his shock and panic upon learning about the fire. “I didn’t even know what was happening until neighbours alerted us to the smoke upstairs,” he said. With flames intensifying, his wife acted quickly, helping him escape before the fire consumed the upper floor. A security guard from the estate, who had noticed smoke billowing from the house, also rushed over to assist. He shouted for the couple to evacuate and helped guide them outside just in time. Firefighters took about an hour to bring the blaze under control. The second floor of the house was completely destroyed, with damages yet to be fully assessed. Initial investigations point to an electrical short circuit as the likely cause, though officials from the Nonthaburi Forensic Investigation Unit will conduct further examinations to confirm the cause. Authorities are urging homeowners to regularly inspect electrical wiring and remain vigilant to prevent similar incidents. -- 2025-04-04
