Two people lost their lives, and four others sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision between two pick-up trucks on the Loei-Phu Ruea road late night on 2 April.

At approximately 22:30, officers from Phu Ruea Police Station were alerted to a crash near a resort in Ban Bong, Nong Bua Subdistrict. Emergency responders, including medical teams from Phu Ruea Hospital, the Sawang Kiri Tham Rescue Unit, and the Ruam Jai Rescue Association of Loei, were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, rescue workers found a white Isuzu pick-up truck (registration from Udon Thani) and a silver Toyota Revo (registration from Bangkok) severely damaged from the impact. Each vehicle had three occupants, making a total of six people involved in the crash.

Four individuals, two men and two women, sustained critical injuries, while two men were pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased were identified as Mr Wisanu, 38, from Nong Ao Subdistrict, Nong Wua So District, Udon Thani, and Mr Badin, whose age and address remain unknown. Rescue workers had to use hydraulic cutting tools to free the injured and deceased before transporting them to Phu Ruea Hospital.

Initial investigations suggest that the Isuzu pick-up, carrying three passengers, was travelling from Phetchabun towards Udon Thani when it crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with the Toyota, which also had three passengers. The crash reportedly produced a loud impact, alerting nearby residents.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, with officers collecting evidence and reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
