It doesn't defeat the whole purpose, but the robot question is going tot be problematic, nonetheless. Sooner than anyone seems to think, robots will take over many manufacturing jobs.This will put workers out of work not only in the USA, but around the world in developed countries. It's all part of the AI revolution and there's not really any stopping it.  

 

Smart people in the AI world know this, and have suggested that societies will have to come up with some way to support the idled workers. Universal Basic Income, perhaps.  

 

In ay event, even if manufacturing returns to the USA and the workers are all robots, this will help enrich America and stop the one flow of money to China.  A win for Trump in that regard.

Agreed. Rare earth is not rare,but it is very polluting which is why the west prefers to do the extraction in poor countries that don't care about the citizens health

While many have been crying and attacking Trump, his deals are happening out of sight. I don't know what the new world order will look like but I doubt it's going to be a happy outcome for Joe Average.

Whatever you want to call it, many people will be out of jobs around the world.  How much they will pay idled workers is anyone's guess.  That's just a temporary solution, though, according to some, who seem to think that through AI and robotics, we''ll be entering an age of abundance and people will have all they need.

 

To me, that seems crazy, but that's the thinking.

I think you miss the point. The AI geniuses maintain that through AI and robotics, the world will be entering an age of extreme abundance, with the cost of producing goods reduced to almost zero.  People will have everything they need.  

 

To me, that sounds like a dream, but that's the thinking.  What will it matter who owns the robots, if goods can be produced so cheaply that people will have everything they want?   

 

Anyway, the robots are coming, along with the AI revolution.  There's some possibility it all ends badly, with AI robot "Terminators" wiping out humanity as unnecessary.

Sabateurs?  I'm not sure about that, but I suppose you could say they don't have much political savy. They may have absolutely perfect theories on how to rearrange the deck chars on the Titanic, but I'm not sure they fully realize how cumbersome the political process really is. Navarro is from academia and Bessenet is from Wall Street. Both have no real experience in the political process. Trump?  I think he has good instincts, but in this case, the headwinds from the bond market may be just too much.

I didn't vote for Trump. As I said I simply despise everything about the dems and the left now like many Americans., I have never said anything about the 2020 election but since we are talking elections... who won in 2024? The reason for this is that many people who aren't MAGA did support Trump. Because as i have been saying the only people more despised than Trump are the dems.

In case you are unaware, China mines 70% of the world's rare earths. It processes 90% of rare earths into usable form.

 

FYI, the richest deposit of the rare earth elements neodymium and praseodymium is in Australia. The mine and processing for concentrate  will come into production late 2025.

 

Unfortunately for America, most of its output is forward sold to the EU for the next ten years.

What about the deposits in Russia and Ukraine that Trump is trying to make a deal on?  And America has its own deposits.  If push comes to shove, I think they can extract those deposits fairly quickly.

It takes on average 5-7 years to develop a mine, more if beneficiation is required. How cost effective it is, also depends on the ore body grades. No two mines are the same in terms of the treatment technologies required to make the mine profitable. That takes time in research.

 

I was on the ground floor of the first iron ore boom in Western Australia back in the sixties, so I may just know a bit more about mine development than you do.
