I need to go shopping at Tops and Friendship supermarkets. So I was wondering what's the best time to do this in the morning.to dodge the cultured people who delight in throwing water?

Might be better in the Pattaya forum, as Songkran has finished in most places.

I was just talking about what time does water throwing start every morning in general.

We stocked up before Songkran and we ain't going anywhere until the week following  Songkran.  And Songkran was officially over April 15th.  Stay out of the tourist areas where foreigners can't control themselves and don't dress up in bright colors and look like your celebrating.  If someone comes up with water, stare them down with a "Don't" or "Yut."  Or just don't go out.

I am very well stocked up too but I really need sour dough bread as I'm an allergy sufferer.

water throwing starts at 3-4 pm or maybe around noon the earliest.

but not 100% sure.

i've been out doing errands 8-9 am and have not seen anyone with a water gun.

but i have not walked past any bars ... but doubt there's anyone in the bars at that time anyway.

Generally in my neck of the Phitsanulok woods, it starts about 10am until 5pm on 13th, 14th and 15th April. Then that's it done with.

Allergic to what? Sour dough bread has all the same ingredients as most other breads.

Most Piss head Tourists, and Thai's on holiday dont wake up  til near Noon, I live on the dark side, East Pattaya, where late night water parties are the norm.. and have been going out most Mornings to Big C Extra and  Friensdhip, arriving back home around 10 am  and never see any water throwers anywhere, I think it will be a bit different Friday Saturday Being the last 2 days

Already looking to get out of pattaya next year during songkran as personally I just do not like what it has become.  If it were two or three days ok...but it now seems to last about ten days and to me that is just over the top too much.

Watching and being assualted by a  bunch of mostly fat falangs drunk and with no shirts acting like 13 y.o. kids night after night and getting massive buckets of mostly ice water thrown or shot into your face is not my idea of fun.

I am very much aware that if anything it will likely get worse...so only real solution is to just leave town which i will certainly do next year.

well it's actually fun when there's a cute thai girl who sprays you ... but unfortunately there's way too many aholes out there. and one afternoon would have been enough. they're milking this for a week for money or what? jeezus.

Assuming these camera's are live, what the hell is going on in PTY to still have water throwing today? To then throw at people who are going to their job or shops, what is the point even. I thought Chiang Mai was crazy to have ended by 16th. The holiday ended 15th officially.

I can totally get that people would get very pissed off about it at this point, living there. Even as a tourist visiting not expecting it, it's not even clean water but often very dirty and mixed with white powder.

Between 11am to 2pm, or 5pm to midnight or you can not buy beer.

I do the same as you do.

Prepare enough food for 3 days in advance.

And stay put during the day(4/13-15).

Well that doesn't really help as they started since last friday and still do it today.

I still have enough ration.

So no problems.

My stockpile, good for roughly 10 days.

And I am not in Pattay.

In Hua Hin, it starts after midday, and lasts only 1 day

But, as everybody knows, the "big day" in Pattaya is and always has been the 19th.  What has changed over the years is the start date which is now also earlier than elsewhere.  They used to tell me the reason was it allowed people to go home for the traditional holiday without missing out on all the fun when they got back.

Well you can see everywhere, where they do that idiotic week of water throwing, it does not work. It is simply much more fun when it is max 2-3 days, same as Samui. It only causes people to go on different days, which then means it is not as crowded and fun, as well tiring after 3+ days.

I've seen no water throwing up until about 1 pm every day this week. (Beach Road and 2nd Road). I'm not sure what time they start, but I think around 3 pm in the bar areas. You're safe, even in the bar areas, at least until midday. It was bone dry this morning on Beach Road and 2nd Road at 11 am. I was in Na Kluea, East of Sukhumvit, most of yesterday, and I forgot about Songkran - not a drop of water anywhere.

Today the 19th is so far the worst yet...not only all the water but the music has been playing along beach since about 10 am at ear splitting volumes...almost 6 pm and louder than ever.

I will be very very happy when it finally ends.  Good news is I already planned and began booking to get the hell out of pattaya next year for song kran as it is likely to only get worse.

There is no excuse for it to last longer than a few days but obviously the mayor and the tourism authority think it is a great idea to turn what was once a simple relative gentle thai tradition into a total clusterfxxk of 10 or so days that is only getting more violent and dangerous every year.
