Why so many conspiracy theorists and what to do about them

Featured Replies

Well if the sun goes around a flat Earth, what constellation keeps the sun in place? There is no mathematical model for a flat Earth shape where the sun stays so synchronous in place. And for that sake it would be daylight 24 hours everyday everywhere and not just at the poles during the summer.

Sorry, that argument is weak.

If the earth is rotating, what keeps the earth in place to rotate perfectly?

And anyway, if the earth is flat, what keeps the earth in place?

Way too many complexities that would take lifetimes to unravel.

I dunno.

More conspiracy theories are not at all.   They are truths denied by authorities, to stop us becoming intrigued; and then investigating further.

I think Eric Idle explained it best ... in the final line of the song.

Well, here scientists claim that although Earth is not flat, other planets like Jupiter may at one time have been flat.

No I didn't watch it.

There are all sorts of theories about the other planets, but I am not sure what to believe.

This really sums up the attitude and intelligence of the last couple of pages on this thread – basically the ramblings of dullards. How can you expect to make a valid contribution to a discussion is you don't even know what you are contributing?" You haven't even looked at your own contribution! - And as for the comment "There are all sorts of theories about the other planets," how ridiculous and meaningless can you get?? Do you even know what a gas giant is?

I'm pretty sure you don't even understand how to use the word "theory"—you just think it might be a word that conveys some d=sort of intelligence on your behalf. Your hopes are forlorn!!

I don't know everything about everything.

I did look up the common criticism that other planets are spherical. I can't wrap my mind around it so I will refrain from acting like I know what I'm talking about. I meant to say there are all sorts of reasons discussed regarding this, and I don't know what to make of it.

I still contributed the concept of the theory of the sun's rotation on the flat earth, which I think is interesting. And the theory is consistent with weather patterns we observe in thailand and norther countries like russia. So I don't think my contribution was useless noise.

You can say that again. - Why don't you go away and learn something? Firstly, learn the meaning of the word 'theory'. Then study critical thinking. I've had more intelligent discussions with a seven year old.

I was once sitting in a pub having a discussion with a load of people about something – I think it was exploding myths in American history - sat next to me was a friend of mine who was a brickie's mate. He earned a lot of money, and his sports car drank almost as much fuel as he did beer. The problem was, he couldn't follow the conversation – so he decided he'd make a contribution to it anyway, hopefully to show that he wasn't as dumb as he was beginning to feel.

His contribution went as follows...

"The great white shark is the greatest living orgasm known to man" – he reminds me of some of the contributors here

well, you started this thread so now you need to desperately defend your stance I guess.

not all conspiracies are real.

and not everything about a conspiracy may be true.

but there are so many real conspiracies out there that it's mind-boggling that people still think all conspiracies are bs.

AI here is giving a brief list of conspiracies that were later proven to be true:

AI Overview
Several events and activities that were initially dismissed as "conspiracy theories" have been
proven true through declassified documents, whistleblowers, investigative journalism, and official inquiries.
Key examples include:
  • The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment: From 1932 to 1972, the U.S. Public Health Service conducted an unethical study on almost 400 African American men with syphilis, promising treatment but instead only observing the disease's progression and actively withholding the cure (penicillin) even after it became widely available.
  • Project MKUltra: The CIA ran a covert, illegal human-research operation from the 1950s to the 1970s that involved administering LSD and other drugs to unwitting U.S. and Canadian citizens, as well as using hypnosis, sensory deprivation, and psychological torture, in an attempt to develop mind-control techniques.
  • Operation Northwoods: In 1962, the Joint Chiefs of Staff approved a plan to stage fake terrorist attacks on American soil (e.g., bombing U.S. ships and civilian areas) and blame them on the Cuban government to drum up public support for a war against Fidel Castro. The plan was rejected by President John F. Kennedy.
  • COINTELPRO (Counter Intelligence Program): The FBI ran a series of covert and illegal projects to surveil, infiltrate, disrupt, and discredit domestic political organizations, including the Civil Rights Movement, anti-war activists, and the Black Panther Party, between the 1950s and 1970s.
  • The Gulf of Tonkin Incident: Declassified documents later confirmed that the second reported North Vietnamese attack on the USS Maddox in August 1964, which was the primary justification for escalating U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War, never actually happened.

So you have dumb friends.

There are billions of inhabited planets out there literally uncountably many.

Might as well ask why so many Q-Anon troll bots waste their time on AN.

I think you need to learn about critical thinking – then you'd understand that what you are posting is not an argument or point of view; it's just very silly and childish.

I doubt if you are capable of watching this, but some may be......

Of course you don’t know what to make of it.   You admittedly don’t even even watch the videos that you post for support.

You got smoked.

Bingo!

The title was enough to put a dent in his argument.

Didnt need to watch the whole video.

What else? I don't know what a theory is? Lol.

I don't get check-mated that easily, boy.
