For a population in developed nations to remain stable, ,the fertility rate needs to be 2.1. In the United States the fertility rate was 1.62 in 2023, the last year that rates are available for.

Well, if that's the case, then it looks like Trump's effort to increase manufacturing employment in the USA is doomed. The problem with your argument is that Japan needs taxpayers to support the social services that its aging population will need.

And this is the big flaw in social services in western societies and other countries like Japan. 

You pay SS for other people now , not for yourself.

You have to rely on others to pay your SS.

 

But here in Japan's case , it's gonna get rough. Maybe like the others , borrowing or printing money.

Once most of the old people have died , it will get better.

Society never gets better!

Fewer people will give a better quality of life for the people that live there. I'm impressed, Japan is going in the right direction.

The are where they face most dire  workforce shortage: it is the retail and food & beverage sector.

If you travel to Japan now, you will see quite a few foreigners working for their convenience stores and casual gourmet diners(low end establishments).

Without such foreign inputs, they can no longer maintain their services.
