Yes, continuous for about 6 years (I think 1998-2004 iirc ).

That's what I posted and what @zzzzzdoesn't know/ understand

Wrong!

There is no time limitation to that grandfathering provided you were fully compliant when it was introduced and maintained the "grandfathered" conditions from then on. Some people suffered because of COVID travel restrictions and could not get back into country to renew under the old rules!

I wonder how many are still alive under the grandfathered rules?

Is my English so poor?

There WAS (past tense) - not is - a time limit.

In 2004 you were only grandfathered if you had already been on  continuous extensions since 1998.

(The numbers may be a bit off - but you were NOT grandfathered if you just got your first extension in 2003).

Trust me, I was alive.

I guess the 300 THB are the one and only reason, why they implement the TDAC.

BINGO! 😁 They been talking about this 300Bt fee for ages now, but they didn't know how to apply it. If they charged every foreigner upon arrival it'll be a total nightmare with arrivals lined up for hours paying in cash, offering foreign currencies, using expired CCs. They could just tag it onto the airfares, but then Thais would get hit with it too, and what about the land arrivals? So they finally solved the problem with this TDAC. And that's why you can't be a foreigner and select Thailand as your country of residence. After the payment comes in they'll probably make it mandatory to have paid and received the QR code before departing, and no QR code, no boarding flight. The airlines will have to go along with it or else they'll be responsible for any passengers refused entry.

It will, eventually. By the time it happens all life on Earth will have already ceased due to extreme levels of heat.

Can someone clarify if immigration are going to increase the retirement financials to 2 million baht and marriage to 1 million baht. I wouldn't normally be worried however an I/O officer and a long time established visa agency have both said the same. With the recent banking debacle,.increases agency fees and no increase for over 20 years I think there maybe some truth to it. Anyone in the know or who has heard anything ?

Stupid even posting rubbish like this...you are only trolling for reactions.

No.  Do you stay 180 days?  If so you are tax resident.  Nothing to do with your 1 year extension.

Yes, because you are one.

When you (filthy rich) farangs finally are going to understand you are only tolereted in Thailand als long as you bring in a LOT of money, with hardly anything in return, close to zero rights, and do NOT danger Thai jobs ?

Bye-the-way: compare it with the Thai /other nationals migrating in your own country. In most EU countries you can apply after 5 years to their citizenship, have voting rights etc. as an "native",  In the USA you can even illegally be deported to a <deleted>-hole in El Salvador, whatever even the Supreme Court says about it, as Emperor "grab-them-by-the-pussy" Trump does whatever pleases him.

It is a little true & a little misguided that Thailand does not realize who & what their main long term customers/expats are.

In reality most are those seeking a better life than what their incomes provide back in their 1st world countries.

Truthfully if an expat has decent money even if he wants to live in Thailand why would he stay for the 3-4 smoky cancerous hellish hot months?...Same for the 3 or so monsoon months? Why? when so many better options exist?

These types that could easily afford 2 million for a one year financial guarantee would be the least likely to actually stay 12 months

So much easier to keep it under 6 months a year with a multi entry tourist visa...no tax hassles...no Immigration hassles...TM30's, 90 day checks... etc etc & most of all get out of hell during the hellish months. Cherry pick it 😉

Nothing wrong with your memory, it used to be there on the forms pertaining to the Non O-A extension.

The grandfathering rules for pre 1998 are set out in clause 7.

How much income tax would they want on 2M being brought in?

Hell no!

Just going on the increase from 800k to 2m, could be looking at 290k.

800-1m @ 20% = ฿40000

1m-2m @ 25% = ฿250000

Folks who "contribute" less than, say, 100K baht per month to the Thai economy are not exactly doing the country any great favor, so why should Thailand continue to welcome outsiders like that?

That's a nice round number, but not sure it's that simple.

In places like Pattaya, the infrastructure is set up for tourists in high season. In low season, the bars are practically empty. And I'm sure the authorities appreciate the retirees there during low season. At least warming up 20% of those bar stools.

I think closing your mouth would be  appropriate....
