incoming or outgoing ?

Friend just returned from Abroad an brought 15lts of booze with him in total (5 bottles for me).

That would have been checked luggage. This set of regs is for carryon items.

Yeah, that was back when you only had to show up an hour before your flight. 9/11 changed all.

The rest of world are looking into doing away with carry on liquid rule. And what does Thailand do? The usual.

The first sentence is a gross distortion. Other counrtries are not doing away with the ruling on liquids, they are looking to install expensive machinary that when working properly will remove the need for human inspection.

The EU changed their rules when first machines installed, the machines didn't perform as expected so they changed the rules back again. It seldom pays to lead the way with new technology.

Thailand is only going to do what other countries are doing.

Many on here are more than happy when Thailand turns a bit of a blind eye in their favour, until something goes wrong

That was exactly my thought! Last time I flew from LGW to BKK (Feb 2025) there was no need to keep liquids etc in a bag and show them separately as before.

Apparently, the scanners have been improved and this is no longer necessary as it was as recently as last year.

Thailand, however moves in the opposite direction.... TIT with its wonders to behold 🙄😎

UPDATE @blackcab mentions that the rules at LHR are the same as at LGW these days - wasn't always the case (pardon the pun)

Other countries are loosing rules and allowing more, but of course Thailand has it ass backwards again and wants to tighten rule. How about they tighten rules on all the idiots they let into the country

Thailand has revamped its airport security, applying stricter rules for carrying liquids, gels, and aerosols (LGAs) in hand luggage. Effective from Tuesday, April 22, the new regulations are aimed at enhancing safety, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT).

The refreshed protocol requires all LGAs to undergo thorough screening processes before passengers, crew, or airport staff can bring them onto the aircraft or into restricted zones.

These rules apply to various items, from drinks and sauces to cosmetics and spray containers. Even combined solid-liquid products like mascara and lip balm are subject to these constraints.

Notable among the changes is the new size limit for LGA containers. Each should not exceed 100 millilitres and must fit in a container of identical capacity.

Passengers can carry multiple containers if the total volume remains under 1 litre, all enclosed in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag. This bag must be presented separately during security checks but does not count as part of hand luggage.

For individuals requiring medications, baby food or milk, or medically necessary dietary products, exceptions are available with proper documentation. Airport teams, including crew and emergency staff, can bring necessary LGAs only if they follow security guidelines.

The rules allow duty-free LGAs if these items are sealed in tamper-evident bags with proof of purchase. This applies to transit and transfer passengers who must show their duty-free goods for inspection.

Airports are tasked with displaying the new guidelines across all public zones to ensure passenger awareness.

In conclusion, as Thailand enforces these stringent security measures, travellers are encouraged to be informed of both departure and arrival airport regulations to prevent delays in their journey.

100ml has been standard for 20 years :coffee1:

It's not the 100ml limit that is changing, it's having to show your containers separately and not just putting them in your carry-on bag.

"Passengers can carry multiple containers if the total volume remains under 1 litre, all enclosed in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag. This bag must be presented separately during security checks but does not count as part of hand luggage."

As others have said, other countries are relaxing the rules, Thailand goes the opposite way.

They give with one hand, i.e., by speeding up password control then take it away with the other by slowing everyone down at security. And this when everywhere else in the world they are working to install scanners that remove the need to separate liquids and creams...😭.

Password Control...is this  a new one? 😆

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday upgraded Thailand's air safety rating to "Category 1" a decade after a downgrade, paving the way for direct U.S.-Thailand flights to resume... this is all part of the agreement.

There was a similar discussion about this a couple of months back when the US was planning to upgrade Thailand. The feeling at that time (by American posters) was that most US carriers wouldn't bother flying here to Bangkok - regardless of FAA upgrade. Maybe THAI will fly to LA again. Air Canada operates the only non-stop from Thailand to North America at present - but it's seasonal - and the seasonal flight might have already stopped now.

The 100 ml limit, on both the liquid and the container, has been the standard for quite some many years now.

As cosmetics are expensive, it would be rare they'd exceed this.

After 9/11 gels and pastes like toothpaste were prohibited

This is nothing new

Fundamentally, the terrorists have won!

Except the terrorists aren't who you think they are.  When you consider who has won, it isn't people strapping bombs to their chest. The real terrorists fly private jets and create these ridiculous control mechanisms.

Assuming you mean at SUV that's odd - my last 2 trips I've just put the carry-on on the belt and walked through the body scanner

Got their priorities wrong again!!!

If they had any regard for public safety they would BAN the "Power Packs". Get them OFF aircraft until such a time when they are deemed to be 100% safe.

These days most long haul aircraft have USB ports available for keeping mobile devices charged and if the punter REALLY needs a power pack = buy an el-cheapo at their destination.

It's the el-cheapos from china that are the problem.

Safety wise it would be more appropriate to ban alcohol sales in airport bars, alcohol safety issues must outnumber power pack issues 1,000's/1

Back on subject, it was a pleasure to travel through Schiphol before the new EU rules put a stop to the 3D CT scanners being used until they undergo further testing, you could take bottles of water in your hand luggage and leave everything in your bag saving time unpacking everything.

These scanners will be reintroduced and implemented in airports that can afford to install them at some point. Sooner rather than later hopefully, it will put an end to the 5-10 times price increase water scam that airports allow their outlets to charge.

Last week I flew from BKK to Phuket. I had separate shower gel and shampoo (total 150ml) in a plastic bag. Got to security and put them, and my phone and wallet in a separate tray from my hand luggage. Was then told to put everything in my hand luggage. It then went through the scanner. When my luggage came out, their so called security team took everything out, then put everything back in and put it through the scanner again and cleared it. Nothing was taken away from me, but a complete waste of time.

I am so sick of airport security and will only fly if absolutely necessary.  Why don't they ban the 1 group that is responsible for all

airport security, from flying instead of a nightmare for everyone else?  The cost involved in this is staggering.

Which group is that? Muslims? Do they have their religion tattoed on their faces, in your opinion?

I have a personal Mace sprayer barely larger than a lipstick tube that shoots a stream seven meters. Your conclusion is flawed.

Which is banned in most countries and would probably be confiscated were you to attempt to get it on to an aircraft under the current ruules. Once you're able to keep it in your carry on luggage, perhaps a different story.

I can remember a time when we were not invaded in Europe, and had no security guards nor security portal anywhere, in airports and even at the entrance of banks !

I've found that the USB ports on long-haul aircraft very often do not work.

true enough, even 'reputable' airlines, my excitement at having a usb socket is quickly extinguished when it refuses to work. why do they bother installing them?

yea, and i can remember hijacked passenger airlines siting on runways, special forces storming them, and often a loss of passenger life, and then there's lockerbie...

Can you even imagine people feeling safer because of all these boarding policies?  Some people are terrified of flying in the first place, then are subjected to the stress of even getting through security. Airports are stressful enough as it is. Then all these ridiculous added security measures could make a paranoid person lose their marbles.

It’s like taking someone to their favorite restaurant and then insisting they wear a bulletproof vest.
