How often do the farangs shower?

Featured Replies

On Panthip, a Thai forum similar to AN the Thais discuss how often farangs shower.

The first answer given is once per year.
How about you?

Personally every couple of days but I am in the pool or the sea 3-4 times a day usually.

Once a day often isn't even enough because you're always sweating, unless you're in air con all day.

Unless swimming also, yeah.

Couple times a day for me, but I think many here rarely do.  There seems to be a lot of stinky people here.  Lack of deodorant, proper clothes washing, lack of underwear change a urine smell.

Add; bad dirty teeth, bad breathe, messy hair, unkempt old clothes.

Just a general unclean appearance not surprising people think they don't shower.

Also, thinking a pool or ocean is like a shower?  A pool is full of chemicals if you don't shower you will smell. And, the ocean is full of salt, garbage and sewer remnants people actually don't shower after that?  So dirty gotta stink so much.

Those stinky people often include many Thais, usually men.

Most of the answers seem to be coming from Thais who have been abroad.

ส่วนใหญ่วันละครั้ง แต่มีบางคนก็น้อยกว่านั้น ที่เคยเจอคือ 2 ครั้ง / สัปดาห์

Most farangs only once per day, but some people only twice per week.

If I'm at home in Thailand, I always shower after a dump.  Chances are I needed it for the sweating anyway.  Plus in the morning when I wake up and before I go to bed at night.  And it's not unusual for me to strip off my sweat drenched clothes and take a 2 minute shower when I get home from bopping around in the tropics.

But I'm one of those guys who can sweat in a blizzard even when it's well below freezing.  And I wear long pants and a collared shirt whenever I'm out in public in Thailand.  Except at the pool or the beach.

One Thai girl have declined to have a farang husband because "them shower only once per day".

Oh poor girl, you do not know..🫢

minimum of twice a day. Every time I smell body odor on the skytrain/MRT I look around and find a stinky non Thai.

Once a month or so,when the dogs start to avoid me ,i can take a hint.

I have a hard time believing people are actually answering with details about their hygene habits LOL!! You got to be kidding right? Nobody is interested in how often you shower or take a dump hahaha 🤣

Well said!

Showering too much, even daily is bad for you. Strips the body of essential oils and dries out the skin, which is especially bad for the elderly as skin thins as you age

Sounds to me like somebody is projecting.

Twice a day if not more.  By the way, that comment it typical of Thai ethnocentrism and racism - you know - all farangs are dirty.  Hell, remember Anutin and his rant about "dirty farangs."  If you live here, you encounter racism aimed at farangs.  Unlike your home country, it's pretty much either ignored or encouraged by the government. "Ai farang," to quote our friend Anutin.

The Pom's hide their money under the soap.

But is it as bad as walking around in a cloud of BO?  That's the alternative for a lot of us who grew up away from the tropics.

To the person who put a thumbs down on my post, you obviously have personal hygiene issues.

There is a big difference in taking a shower and using aggressive soap or taken a shower with just water to clean the sweat of your body.

There is a big difference between getting in the shower and soaping up every time, and just getting in a shower and rinsing off.  I may take showers up to four times a day when it's hot, but all but one of those times in nothing but a rinse-down other than perhaps hitting the privates with some suds, and if you're used to using a butt-shower instead of TP, you really don't even need to soap up for that.
The problem is that farangs are acculturated to use toilet paper and smear poop over their butts and assume they are "clean."  You're not.  You smell like poop.  And that sort of adds ammunition to the Thai trope that "farangs are dirty and smell."  Some do.  Actually, many may smell if they don't use a butt-shower.

What's SOAP ?

Actually I blame this lack of showering on Immigration.

In the old days, before on line TM 47 you had to attend Immigration every 90 days so that was a signal that it was time for a shower and change of underpants.

Now with online reporting us olduns just just have to wait for the 1 year renewal visit before we shower and change pants.!!
