Did you not notice the court ruling taking Nestle out of the shops for a month, hence causing scarcity and opportunity for other coffee brands?

as for my usual shopping items .......

5x moo ping sticks and a bag of sticky rice still 30bht

2lty Pepsi from BigC still 35bht

McVities milk chocolate digestives still 99bht at RimPing

KFC Zinger burger still 69bht

Good that they are not inflated prices, but there is nothing in that list I would buy!

And no, I am not puritanical about what I eat!

My first suggestion would be to stop shopping at 7-Eleven, there are far better places to get decent values on food products.    I definitely see some inflation in Thailand, however I'm back

  • I don't look at price tags (seriously who does ?) so no, Ive not noticed an increase.

Imagine the damage that has been done, over the years, to retirees with Social Security and pension payments that are indexed to the official inflation rate. For example, the government might say that the CPI rose 3.1% last year and that's the increase you get.  And yet that amounts to a loss in purchasing power over the year, considering the real inflation rate.  Year after year of the same nonsense and pretty soon retirees in America have a real problem.

Yep!

But, I buy my medicine at a pharmacy in S.E. Pathum Thani.  I track the cost every month (I try to go only once per month).  I've only logged a price increase on a few items (less than 4) in the past 4 years.  I've happy about that and mildly surprised. I hope it continues like that.

I purchase my meat from an market up country and on his primary items there has been no change in prices for the past 3 years. I still shop for things at Big C and Villa Market and I haven't seen many items increase in price there either, (of what I buy).

But food costs are a trivial percentage to most peoples spending, so rises are largely irrelevant.

Housing, property tax, utils and personal transport is what kills you in the west.

That's why I never sold back home and am now enjoying downtown Toronto living for less than $500 Canadian.

Visited the doctor yesterday and got imaging referral - a walk in in super modern downtown imaging center so wait time was zero. Quite a contradiction from porkies I read on this forum from supposed people who live in Canada.

And a view from my condo ain't bad either. Beautiful clean air and less than 5 minute walk to a grocery store ...

They have plenty of Asian women where i live. All young, less dumb than those millenials from a decade ago. Continue that street towards North York and its Asian heaven. So many Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese beauties.

Almost everything in the supermarket business is in the hands of two Thai families. So there's NO REAL competition.

CP Group: Makro, Lotus, 7/11, CP shops, ...
https://www.cpgroupglobal.com/en/about-cp/business-lines

Central Group: Central Department Store, Tops, Big C, Go Wholesale, Thaiwatsadu, PowerBuy, ....
https://www.centralgroup.com/en/home

So I believe it will never give a price fight between them.

And they do it the same as the Supermarket chains in EU & USA. If a holiday come the prices gone up.

Did you have a good look at the size of the KFZ burger or any other products?

The price is same, but you get less.

Zinger burger, size, as much as I can comfortably eat ....... same as it always was.

And the two tacos at La Casita (200bht), I can eat them, but can't finish the chips and dips.

And the German breakfast buffet, just gone up to 250bht, i probably won't go again (at least for a while).

Chicken Jalfrezi and Naan bread, still 260bht, still have trouble with the last mouthful of  Naan.

Not much change in the past 5 years, for price or size, only the German (220bht-250bht in 1 year).

At last someone has spotted the real problem.

When I am out shopping I am always looking for deals especially in Makro or Big C or Lotus.s

Found packs of  chicken potato powder in Lotus,s.  29 baht.

In 7/11.  35baht  happy 😊

Mostly only shop at Makro

Yellow tags are a great deal, most all go in the Freezer for a later date

Last visit Toshiba Gold Coffee  200 gram  jar 259 baht  - on the end of the racks was a promotion = in a Christmas Box pack 2 x 200 gram Jars + a Christmas glass total 247 baht per box !!

Keep your eyes open there are some great deals about

I have noted the same - certainly most food items seem to increase in price almost monthly; while basic wages have not increased, energy prices have not increased, not major natural disasters which have impacted food production, etc.

But, I did read a few months ago that the latest profits of a very large Thai food producer/retailer increased by 457% (for memory) over the past 12 months - yes 457% (no decimal point missing).

More like, they don't HAVE to go out with grandpa because the state will provide.

High cost housing, homeless people, divorce, single women, debt ..........

ALL western government policy, nothing more!

So much for "buy local" !!!

That's exactly what I'm doing!

Directly 2l cartons in 7-11 went above 90bht, I switched to Dairy Rich powder @225bht for 9 litres.

Big savings, 50% cheaper, and much easier than having to keep going out for milk.

Also saves more, as I'm not impulse buying because I visit 7-11 less.

"Local" , as in all the way from New Zealand !!!!!

Why would I care where anything comes from?

Back in the UK (1970s), bananas came from the west Indies, Apples from South Africa, Lamb from New Zealand, and beef from Argentina. Chicken was local, but in those days nobody could afford to eat it.

All I care about is the price!

They are trying to ramp up inflation in thailand

Probably the most ridiculous statement on the thread.

Nobody wants to push up inflation, it is the curse of prosperity. Higher standard of living can only come from higher prices to pay the higher wages.

Foreigners scream at Thailand for better standards and then start whinging at higher prices. People should be careful what they wish for.

Apart from external factors, there was an increase in the minimum  wage on Jan 1st which is probably now filtering though the food chain, so to speak.
