Thailand the hub of aviation safety and brake failures …. What could possibly go wrong…?

At least it did not take off to crash minute later on the beach (cf: Hua Hin Twin Otter).

Aaah, the old brake failure story.    I reckon the pilot was once a lorry driver.

Third world maintenance strikes again. It used to be helicopters that were dropping from the sky now things have moved on. Thank god the same mechanics do not service the national airline

You really ought to get out more.

I was in the RAF for 14 years and had to attend 2 courts of enquiry. First was a helicopter that crash landed in the desert and the second a Buccaneer that crashed near the Dutch border.

Incidents like bird strikes, brake problems, burst tyres etc were almost daily and taken as part of the job.

No internet meant no keyboard judgmentalists in those days.

why was Samui Airport used for militairy plane in the first place? i used to live on Samui, and i know that this is a private airport owned by Bangkok Airways.

what were they doing there?

and the 54 passengers? was it maybe a weekend trip for some 'chosen' officials, paid by taxpayers?

and brakefailure? in my naivity i always thought before lift off, every pilot (civil or militairy) must do a loooong list of checks before even start...

Yes, a C130 does have reverse thrust with it's turboprop (jet) engines much to the amazement of many on this forum. Even aircraft powered by piston engines had reverse thrust.

Back in 1964 I recall landing at a Bangkok airport in a Blackburn Beverly en-route to Loeng Nok Tha in NE Thailand.  We reversed into a parking stand using reverse thrust to much amazement of the US servicemen in the area. Talking with them later they didn't believe what they'd seen 😁
